Last week, nine students and two teachers went on Ven a Ver Borderlands, an immersion to the U.S/Mexico border in Tucson, Arizona. On the trip, they learned about immigration and heard personal stories from immigrants who crossed the border. The group also met with CSJ sisters to learn more about our CSJ history.

A Message from VP of Academics and Ed Tech

To the Carondelet Community -

International Women’s Day was last Wednesday, which launches the season to celebrate! Junior Prom occurred on Saturday at the Overlook in Oakland. A good time was had by all.

Sisterhood Week is this week and again the campus will be abuzz with activity. We will be celebrating the Feast of St. Joseph a little early on Thursday the 16 with a liturgy.

Frosh and Soph Councils are selling tickets for an all-girls neon dance party that is scheduled to happen on Thursday, March 16. As I type this, I am acutely aware that parents are sitting in the paradoxical state of wanting their students to find joy and dreading the idea of having a weeknight late pickup. You are welcome.

In more good news, all students have Friday off because we have a faculty/staff professional day. All faculty will have training from Catapult Learning in the morning, and we will be working on the WASC accreditation document together in the afternoon.

This reminds me, if taking the parent survey for WASC has slipped your mind, this is the perfect opportunity to participate in the first survey. We know people’s time is valuable. We really appreciate you taking the time to take the survey. Our deadline was originally set for March 1, but we will keep it open until Wednesday so we can hear from a few more parents/guardians!

A last note: The spring season of sports has begun and there are lots of exciting games on the horizon. Please check out the Athletics calendar on the website to follow along.

Heart + Faith + Courage = Excellence,

Elizabeth Chaponot, Ph.D.

Vice Principal of Academics and Ed Tech

Reminders + Requests

Dress Uniform

Please note that students will wear dress uniforms on Thursday for the St. Joseph’s Day Celebration, a formal schoolwide assembly where some of our local Sisters and Associates will join us and renew their CSJ vows.

Thank You for Giving!

Please accept deep and heartfelt thanks from the students, faculty, and staff of Carondelet High School.

Thanks to 403 supporters, and in partnership with our incredibly generous matching donors, this year's Giving Day raised more than $108,000 in total for Carondelet students. Fifty-five classes were represented by students, alumnae, parents, and grandparents—and every gift contributed to these phenomenal results. The Class of 2026 had the highest participation and will win a pizza party during lunch.

A Special THANK YOU to Our Matching Gift Donors

Company Spring Musical

Xanadu Opens on March 23

Company invites everyone to join us for Xanadu. This musical follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mount Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time—the first ROLLER DISCO! (Hey, it's 1980) But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation, and chaos abounds.

Opens March 23 and closes April 2. Purchase Tickets Here.

Campus Ministry

Volunteers for Holy Week Liturgy

Sisterhood Week

March 19 is the Feast Day for St. Joseph, the patron saint of the Sisters of St. Joseph. To usher in this Feast Day, Carondelet has a week-long celebration of Sisterhood this week. In gratitude for the legacy established by the Sisters of St. Joseph, we spend this week celebrating the CSJ tradition of Heart, Faith, Courage, and Excellence that continues to be passed along through the Carondelet Sisterhood. Throughout the week there will be fun food sales at lunch and students and staff will be recognized for being living examples of our core sisterhood values as leaders from Spiritual Life Council visit 5th period classrooms to present certificates, gifts, and homemade treats. Sisterhood Week will culminate with the St. Joseph’s Day Celebration and Girls’ Dance Party on Thursday, March 16. Please note that students will wear dress uniform on Thursday for the St. Joseph’s Day Celebration, a formal schoolwide assembly where some of our local Sisters and Associates will join us and renew their CSJ vows.

Lenten Project - Relief for Refugees

Last month, Turkey and Syria were deeply impacted by three devastating earthquakes. Thus, we are focusing our Lenten project on aid to refugees. We are partnering with World Relief in Sacramento to collect household items to help families resettle in a new home. A list of suggested items is posted on the website and displayed in each fifth-period classroom. Students are asked to turn in donations in the Lenten Project boxes in their fifth period class. For parents and families who would like to make larger donations, like furniture and appliances, please check out World Relief’s Amazon Wishlist (donations purchased through this Amazon wishlist will ship directly to their location in Sacramento).

Model United Nations Club

Model UN Club Attends Berkeley United Nations

On March 3-5, Carondelet students attended the UC Berkeley Model United Nations. This conference attracts high school students nationwide to participate in a simulation of the actual United Nations. Carondelet students step into the shoes of ambassadors from member states to resolve global issues through debate and diplomacy. Our students represented the nation of Belarus and participated in committees that discussed issues such as: green economic development, the effects of COVID-19 on Latin American refugees, and the impact of AI on UN member states.
