Dear Friends of The Blue Purl,
Ok, so it has not been terribly warm outside and there has not been a lot of sun these last few days.
But to be sure there are a few signs of Spring, nonetheless.
On Friday the crack of the bat comes back to the Bronx with opening day.
And, finally, supply lines be damned, Girl Scout Cookies have arrived.
Still, rain and baseball and Do-si-dos don’t quite say Spring is here like….wait for it.
NJ WOOLWALK
We are a fun bunch of us who knit and crochet. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Woolwalk is a chance to get out and to stock up on some of your favorite yarns at a good price. But don’t you feel like Woolwalk is about more than sales? Does it give you a sense of belonging? It does to us.
We are a community united by love of working with our hands and heads to create beautiful objects. We are a community unified by our understanding that practice doesn’t always make perfect – but it does make us better.
(Perfect seems like an end state, while we know that our commitment to knitting and crocheting is a journey where the chance to learn and grow never ends.) We are a community bound by our relentless commitment to learning.
And for one week this month, our community is invited to mix and mingle.
We would call it a party but the dictionary says a party is “a social gathering of invited guests, typically involving eating, drinking, and entertainment.”
We do invite you to join us for the week-long Woolwalk.
And we do invite you to have fun and to come and chat with our smart, funny, helpful, dedicated team at The Blue Purl.
But instead of food and drink, we offer the chance to choose from a wide selection of beautiful yarns.
So, come out and join us. It is Spring after all. Let’s get together.

Spring is a time for poetry also... From our resident crochet artist, power walker and poetess:
"Preciseness, order, logic are
-To me - a diamond, pearl, and star.
Such traits as these (though met by gibes
From members of dismissive tribes)
Should never, ever be disdained
As commonplace, for nothing's gained
By jaunty flair and impish mirth
If such spin loose and quit the earth."
What a mighty pen, Judy. Thank you.)

Our thoughts turn to lighter and quicker projects. How about a shawl or light-weight top to ward off springtime transitional temps?
Check out some of our very popular in-house samples in our Ravelry bundle.
We also love new patterns from local designer, Jennifer Weissman: In the Stacks and Bookish Shawl. Look closely: one is scarf (sport weight) and the other, a shawl (worsted weight). Both are beautiful!

BEFORE & AFTER… Birkin-ing is a verb @thebluepurl. Everyday someone comes in wearing, knitting, or gathering for one! Our fearless Birkin knit-along leader Tam used Brooklyn Tweed Peerie for her gorgeous colorwork sweater. Caitlin Hunter's pattern is so wonderful at giving the maker choices in the yoke design that it makes each one unique. Thank you @tamlang88 for setting up and enabling everyone to succeed in this venture!! ❤️ LOVE THAT BIRKIN!
