If you are a fan of Japanese animation, or even if you're just curious about a new sort of storytelling, then join us for our monthly anime group. Once a month the club meets and watches a few episodes over snacks and talks about their favorite shows. It's a great way to explore new shows.

Want to try some new adventures, check out what's happening here at the library this month.  We'll have a great time chasing away the winter blahs by playing mini golf within the stacks and throughout the library.  Literacy Volunteers of Methuen will be holding a rear winter training for Basic Education here in January and the Adult Reader Services Dept. is challenging their patrons to a cool Winter Reading Challenge.   The Children's Room always has some exciting programs and story times happening so don't be a stranger, come on in and see how you can participate.

Literacy Tutor Training this month

Literacy Volunteers of Methuen is conducting a winter training for those hoping to help someone who is struggling with basic education needs.  At the conclusion of the training, participants will be matched with adult students who may be struggling with reading or writing in English.  This is a morning workshop and will run for 6 weeks.  Prior to the training, people should attend an Orientation meeting to learn about the program requirements.

If you've wanted to give back and wondered how to do that, this might be for you.

Mahjonng is @ the Library - Who Knew?
January 2 10am

The Nevins Library is starting up a regular Mahjongg Game!  We will have tables and games available on the First Wednesday of every month at 10am starting January 2nd for Mahjongg.  Feel free to bring your own set too.  No matter your experience level (we're just learning the game ourselves), come and play along. It is a lot of fun!
Winter Reading Challenge
Starts January 14

Winter is such a nice time to cozy up with a cup of cocoa, a favorite fuzzy blanket and a good book. And now, with the Nevins Library Winter Reading Challenge, you just might win a prize for doing just that! Starting January 14th, you can sign up for our Winter Reading Challenge at the Main Desk. We have several reading prompts, or categories, that you'll try to complete based on the books you read this winter.
Children's Happenings for January

We're starting the New Year off with lots of entertaining storytimes with an assortment of fun topics - Eric Carle, dragons, winter themes, sea creatures, mice, and more. Our yummy Donuts with Dad storytime is back this month, and also returning is our new bilingual playgroup (you don't have to be bilingual to attend -- everyone is welcome).
A highlight of our January programming is our new Trivia Fun contest for grades 4-6, where kids can test their memories (or at least have fun trying). This month's topic is Marvel Comics - how much do you know about Marvel's characters, storylines, and history?
