Updates from our
Head of School

Hello Marblehead Community Charter Families,

I think the local meteorologists were just so excited at the possibility of "plowable snow" that they overhyped the storm earlier this week. Once all of the surrounding districts canceled, it forced us to call a snow day. As some have inquired, we do not need to add a day to our calendar. The last day of school in June is unchanged; it is still June 16.

We held our primary enrollment lottery for the 2023-2024 school year on Wednesday of this week. We have started to contact those who have been offered a spot in our incoming 4th grade class. We will update everyone who registered for any grade level on their waitlist number via the mail. On a rolling basis this spring and as we know of openings in the other grade levels, we will contact families to extend the offer to fill the vacancy. Interested families can still apply for next year on our website. We will hold a secondary enrollment lottery in June.

We are still waiting to hear from some current families on their intent to return and save their seat for next year. We have some exciting structural improvements planned for our upper school grades for next year and beyond. We hope that all students will stay with us for the full, five-year program. To learn more about the upper school plans, including the planned construction of new classrooms, please attend the events on March 16 where I will speak with families after the Cosmic Cafe and Night at the Museum.

On Friday, I will be at the MassCUE/MASCD spring leadership conference in Worcester. I will be joined by three of our teachers, as we present and share about the Teaching Force program that we have implemented here at MCCPS. As the first school in the country to use these protocols that are in place in over 1000 schools in the Netherlands, we hope to bring more schools on board and grow our network and continue these efforts to continuously improve our instructional practices. Yesterday, our teachers had the first of a two part workshop on elevating our project based learning environment. We are excited to learn more and improve every day.

Enjoy the weekend. Let's hope the winter weather they are talking about for Friday night into Saturday also ends up being a low-impact event. On the bright side, daylight savings time begins in just 10 days.
