Strengthening Churches in their Own Calling
Hey there,

Integral development begins first and foremost with relationship, listening to understand, and sharing a common journey and/or context together. For World Partners’ global workers engaging in Latin America, this journey has included investing in pastors and partner denominations, in proximity, and from afar over a number of years.

Keith and Ruth Ann Elliott and Dan and Anne-Marie Chapple have many years of experience in walking through various stages of partnership with leaders in Latin America. World Partners would phrase this pattern within the Four Stages of Mission Participation.
As the Elliots engage with the Missionary Church of Ecuador, their prayer for the church and its leaders would be that “…the church would not only identify its own calling and mission to their own people but also to other people, especially to other people who are unreached.”

We celebrate the investment of these couples to see capacity increased among leaders so that, in turn, the Ecuadorian and Mexican church’s capacity to bless their surrounding communities can increase.

May the sharing of the Chapples story bring about an anticipation and excitement for how these investments, done from a relationship-first posture, can bear fruit as Paul says…

“In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace.” (Colossians 1:6)
Unexpected Changes Open Doors, an Excerpt from EMCC Together

Dan and Ann-Marie Chapple have been World Partners Global Workers serving in Mexico for 19 years. At the invitation of the National Church, Dan has implemented a training program used all over Latin America to facilitate classes for bi-vocational pastors in need of biblical knowledge and ministry skills.

When the pandemic began, the Chapples were asked to return to Canada. “If we were still there, we’d be doing things the same way, but eventually one person can’t do it all. Now, I’m [Dan] working with three men, all of whom have been going through the training material with me. Each will be responsible for overseeing the classes in their area, and will start new groups.”

Dan works with pastors online, mentoring and discipling them, and providing pastoral care. “I am praying they will build relationships with the other pastors in their areas, and be seen, not as powerful leaders, but as servants, and that they will serve and equip the church.”

Dan will still be somewhat involved, but wants to hand over as much as he can to them. “This shift to nationals overseeing the classes will allow us to train more workers and reach more areas. And it is healthy for them to grow in their leadership capabilities.”
