The Nevins Library is proud to announce our participation in September 11, 2001: The Day That Changed the World exhibit in cooperation with the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in New York.
This exhibit presents the history of 9/11, its origins, and its ongoing implications through the personal stories of those who witnessed and survived the attack. It will be on display in the Fireplace Room of Nevins Library through the month of September.
Additionally, on Saturday, September 11 at 12 noon and at 2pm, we will screen a 35-minute webinar produced by the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. This webinar is suitable for all ages and features personal stories from 9/11 family members, first responders from the FDNY and PAPD, as well as a student on 9/11. There will also be a chance to live chat questions to staff at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum until 3pm. This will be a moving and memorable experience.
Our gratitude to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the American Library Association for making this possible.

Donuts with Dad is Back! (And Some New Programs too!)
|
Well, it’s been quite a summer – lots of great performers and events, and great patron participation! And now that kids are back in school and we’ll be open on Saturdays again (beginning 9/11), it’s time to shift to after-school and weekend programs for school-age children, as well as fun preschool programs.
Our recent parent survey showed overwhelming preference for having a themed preschool storytime series that you could count on regularly attending, so we’re offering just that: we’re excited to launch our weekly “Alphabits” program, which focuses on a different letter each Monday. Even if your children already know their alphabet, they’ll enjoy these weekly stories and crafts, as well as the company of other preschool children.
That’s not the only new program, though: we have two different craft clubs for ages 5-8 and 9-11, a “Movie Matinee” for ages 8-11, a “Learn at the Library” program for homeschoolers, and “Science Storytime” for preschoolers.
Plus, we’re bringing back our book groups for children and the ever-popular “Donuts with Dad.”
Keep an eye on the Children’s Department calendar and Facebook page to learn about these and other upcoming programs!
Happy September, and Happy Reading!
