Beer Tasting: Artale x Pig Minds Single Barrel Barking Crow Release
Thursday, March 9th | 4:30-6:30PM
About a year ago we dropped off a spent bourbon barrel at Pig Minds to be filled and aged for a future release. That barrel was from our first Driftless Glen store pick: a 4-year, 9-month-old single barrel straight bourbon. The emptied whiskey barrel was filled with Pig Minds' house imperial stout, Barking Crow, for a long slumber. After 10 months we deemed the barrel had reached its limit of influence. We took the beer a step further and conditioned it on some Tahitian vanilla bean and organic cacao nibs from South America supplied by our longtime friends at CacaoCuvee. Barrel #1 was born, and you can taste it on Thursday, March 9th with Pig Minds' head brewer Chris. Bottles will be available for sale.

Orval Day 2023
Saturday, March 25th | All Day
Every year, Merchant du Vin – importers of Orval – designates one a day a year in which a percentage of all sales of Orval will be donated to a select charity. This year’s charity is National Forest Foundation. Orval Trappist Ale was the first Brett beer to land on US shores and has become the favorite beer for many star American brewers. (“Brett” – brettanomyces – is a yeast variety that adds appetizing, sharp acidity and dryness.) Orval is brewed to exquisite perfection within the walls of Notre Dame d’Orval Monastery in Belgium. It’s delicious when it leaves the brewery, but also evolves in the bottle for five years or more.

BLiS Bourbon Barrel Matured 100% Pure Maple Syrup
Sale $19.99 Reg. $22.99
To create our Bourbon Barrel Maple Syrup, we start with 100% pure maple syrup harvested from old-growth Michigan maple orchards. This incredibly robust, small-batch maple syrup is kettle-cooked before being aged in hand-selected, 18-year-old Kentucky Bourbon barrels. After months of gentle maturation, the result is an elegant and complex maple syrup unlike any other.
On the palate, you’ll find deep notes of charred oak, Kentucky bourbon, and baking spice, which are balanced perfectly by sweetly delicate aromas of honey and vanilla.

Last year we took a trip to Driftless Glen with our friends at The Norwegian and picked out this delicious barrel. We sold out of our portion in November and like all of our single barrels, we figured once gone this barrel would just be a fond memory. But lost in the shuffle were 6 cases that we were thrilled to get our hands on and enjoy this special barrel a little longer. As always, we have a bottle open at the store so come by for a sample and get one before it is actually gone forever!
Driftless Glen Artale & The Norwegian Single Barrel Bourbon
$55.99
In 2020, we picked a Driftless Glen barrel that many of our customers still ask us about. With a unique mash bill of 60% corn, 20% rye, and 20% barley, our bourbon barrel quickly became a fan favorite. Baraboo provides a bountiful region rich with peat, bogs, an amazing aquifer, and uncommon sandy soil grains to grow, making the profile of Driftless Glen's spirits completely their own. Bourbon is the American spirit and as we see distilleries all over the country make artfully distilled and aged bourbon, we begin to see how impactful different climates have on the final product. And we have really grown to love what Driftless Glen adds to the bourbon scene.
But we are not the only place in Rockford that appreciates what Driftless Glen has to offer. The Norwegian (1402 N Main St) has also picked a barrel before, so it made sense that we all headed to Baraboo together for this fun project. The Norwegian is a favorite of ours in town for their talented kitchen and bar staff, seasonal weekend menus, and just being wonderful people.
Aged for 6+ years, with a mash bill of 60% corn, 20% rye, and 20% barley, this is the first barrel pick we have done that will not be cask strength. While tasting, all of us knew we had found our barrel after adding a few splashes of water. The lower proof point brings out flavors of vanilla, cherry, and caramel, while pulling back on the intense wood character to make this a very pleasing drinker.

Flora Springs
Napa Valley Estate
Chardonnay
2016
$29.99 reg. $37.99
The 2016 Napa Valley Chardonnay relies primarily on fruit from two AVAs: Oakville, a mid-valley region with warm days and cool evenings that produce generously-fruited, richly-textured Chardonnay, and the Oak Knoll District, a cooler, more southerly appellation with grapes that bring fresh acidity and citrus fruit flavors to the wine. The wine was fermented in stainless steel and aged in a combination of new and seasoned French and American oak barrels, with bi-weekly lees stirring and 20% malolactic fermentation. Stone and citrus fruits lead the charge in this fruit-driven wine, with green apple and fresh pearsharing the stage with zesty lemon and lime. The fruit is supported by a framework of toasty oak -- and hints of vanilla and caramel add complexity and interest. The wine's mid-palate is round and creamy yet the finish is bright, crisp and beautifully balanced.
