MoDOT and MHTC support Jobs for America's Graduates - Missouri

Governor and First Lady present information at March Commission meeting

At the March 8 Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission meeting, Gov. Mike Parson and First Lady Teresa Parson presented information on the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) Missouri program, which they serve as co-chairs.

JAG-Missouri Executive Director Chris Patrick shared that JAG helps students recognize and unleash their potential by ensuring they graduate from high school and are ready to move into college, military service or a career.

JAG serves students who have academic potential but who also face significant barriers, such as poverty, challenging family situations or a history of personal trauma. Over the last nine years, JAG-Missouri has grown from six programs in six schools serving 225 students to 87 programs in 60 schools serving 3,250 students as of 2021.

Last fall, MoDOT staff across the state began participating in the JAG-Missouri program. Currently, MoDOT is involved in more than 30 high school JAG-Missouri programs. For more information, visit Jobs for America's Graduates – Missouri.

"No MOre Trash!" can decorating contest ends soon

This year's trash can decorating contest ends March 17. Missouri schools are challenged to decorate a trash can with the No MOre Trash! logo and a litter-prevention slogan. Entries must include a completed entry form and up to three photos. The grand prize winner will receive $600 and a trophy, and their trash can will be displayed at the State Fair in August. Be on the lookout: Pothole season is moving in

MoDOT crews are already focusing on pothole repairs and will continue through the spring as weather allows. When you see a crew making repairs, slow down and move over to give them room to work safely – remember, it’s the law. Motorists can report the location of potholes on state-maintained roads by calling 1-888-ASK-MODOT (275-6636) or using this form.

Check for open safety recalls on your vehicle!

Vehicle Safety Recalls Week runs March 6-12 to raise awareness about checking for recalls and getting any unrepaired recalls fixed immediately. Hundreds of recalls are issued every year, and some recalls are updated during the year. This week leads up to daylight saving time, when many people check smoke detector batteries, so check for vehicle recalls too. Learn more.

Today in Transportation History - March 9, 1985

Texas Department of Transportation engineer James Evans initiated the first Adopt-a-Highway trash pickup program. He asked community groups to volunteer, but costs were too high so TxDOT agreed to create an official program with the now-famous signage. Missouri was the second state to join the program in 1987 and 48 others have joined since. Learn more.
