  • Thursdays at 12:30 p.m. Lunch Bunch! Bring your lunch, listen to stories and enjoy a fun craft. Individual craft kits will be available. All ages. This event will be offered as a hybrid on Zoom or in person in the Junior Room of the Library. Numbers are limited and registration is required. Please register on our events calendar.

Sunday, March 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Safe Sitter® Essential Training. This 6 hour course is designed to prepare students to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. This Instructor-led class is filled with fun games and role-playing exercises. Students will learn Safety Skills, Child Care Skills, First Aid and Rescue Skills, and Life and Business Skills. Class is $30 per participant. Grade 6 and up only, please. We will be meeting in the Junior Room. Registration is required. Space is limited. Please call or email the Junior Room to register.

Thursday, March 23 at 3:30 p.m. STEAM Activity: Codebreaking and Cyphers. Come try your hand at codebreaking! Can you solve these cyphers, or maybe even create your own? Thursday, March 30 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Conference Day Movie Matinee. Join us for an afternoon viewing of The Lego Movie. It is an early dismissal for conferences, so we are turning the Junior Room into a movie theater for the afternoon! Parents who have KCS Parent/Teacher conferences may leave their children in the care of the Junior Room staff only with prior notification. You must register with the time of your conferences. Otherwise, this is not a drop-off. Children of all ages are welcome to participate. We will be meeting in the Junior Room. Please call or email the Junior Room to register.

Thursday, April 6 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Spring Book Discussion Series: Contemporary Family Chronicles. This Spring we will look at a traditional type of novel, particularly common in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, to see how this kind of tale is being used in contemporary novels. What holds families together, or breaks them apart? This month's book is Death is Hard Work by Khaled Khalifa. The discussion is conducted by Betty Krasne, PhD., writer, professor emerita, and longtime Kent resident. Free and open to the public. On Zoom. This presentation will explain the differences between Skilled Nursing Homes, Independent and Assisted Living Communities, Continuing Care Retirement Communities, and Memory Care Communities. Tuesday, April 25 at 6:30 p.m. Dementia vs Normal Aging. This presentation provides an overview of dementia and how it is different from normal aging. We will discuss the different forms of dementia and common symptoms that accompany memory loss as well as some things to look for in seniors that can cause confusion. Presented by New Season In Life. At the end of April 2023 Libby will take over for Overdrive.
Here are some helpful ways to make the transition:

Libby help: How-to videos and step-by-step instructions on Libby Help explain how to use the app.
Overview page about the transition to Libby: This informational page for users includes an overview about the sunset, FAQs, and training opportunities.
Virtual training: Users can sign up for a virtual training session hosted by team OverDrive.
Options for Kindle Fire devices: Amazon has not yet accepted our submission of the Libby app to the Amazon Appstore so the OverDrive app will remain available for Kindle Fire users to download and access until further notice. Users with Kindle Fire devices can also sideload Libby manually following these steps.

See books signed by Ogden Nash, Alexander Woollcott (member of the Algonquin Round Table and model for Sheridan Whiteside in “The Man Who Came to Dinner”), Erica Jong, Gertrude Lawrence, A.S. Byatt and artist David Armstrong.
Also a pamphlet signed by paleoanthropologist Mary Leakey, and early Seth McFarlane drawings.

The Kent Seed Library is full of seeds for this year’s growing season. While it is still early, it is a good time to start thinking about what you would like to grow this year.
The Kent Memorial Library has lots of gardening books to get your creativity flowing. Our Seed Library is here for patrons to “borrow’ seeds to grow. In return, please make an effort to donate some seed for others to use at a later time. We even have great books on saving your own seed! Before you know it spring will be here!
