Application for Sales Tax Oversight Committee

The Town of Bennett is currently accepting applications for residents to serve on the Town’s Sales Tax Oversight Committee.

The Sales Tax Oversight Committee reviews, oversees and makes recommendations to the Town of Bennett Board of Trustees regarding the Town’s use of the revenue generated by the one percent sales tax that was approved in 2015.

The committee is comprised of seven members, including one trustee, the Town Treasurer and five residents of the Town.

Those who are interested must be a resident within Bennett’s incorporated limits and must be able to attend meetings at least twice a calendar year. More meetings may be required and are subject to current Town projects.

Applications for the committee can be found online here. Applications must be submitted by March 31, 2023.

The Town Board of Trustees will appoint new committee members during a Board Meeting in April 2023.

Warrant Analysis Complete for Marketplace Intersection

The Town of Bennett worked with Jacobs Engineering Group to conduct the warrant analysis for the Marketplace intersection from Tuesday, February 14, 2023 to Thursday February 16, 2023.

This analysis included recording traffic counts, infractions and wait times at the intersection. Based on preliminary calculations, we've met the peak hour and four hour warrant requirements. This analysis is an important step for the installation of the traffic signals at the intersection.

The warrant analysis will now be turned into the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and the Town will wait for the approvals in order to move forward with the installation of the signals.

While the Town waits for this approval we ask for continued caution when traveling through the area. Safety is a huge priority for the project and the catalyst as to why the Town has been working to get this stoplight installed.

If you have additional questions regarding the work in the area, please contact the Town of Bennett at 303-644-3249.

Bennett Arts Council March Quilting Enter to Win

The Bennett Arts Council is excited to offer our first celebration of Women’s History Month by recognizing the art of quilting.

While the quilting we know and love today is worlds different from the functional quilting of our past, it still holds a unique place in our hearts and in our history. Mothers would teach daughters the basic stitches and then in turn, would pass those skills on to their children, creating a lifetime of heirloom quilts with nostalgic memories layered within the fabric. They’ve been there to protect us, remind us of our past and comfort us in difficult times.

Enter this month’s drawing to win a quilt for your home! Two winners will receive a lap size quilt, created and pieced by a Bennett quilter and finished by Prairie Fire Quilting.

Tickets to enter to win can be purchased below, proceeds benefit the Arts Council.

Winners will be announced on the Town's Facebook page on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.

Health Departments Monitoring Avian Flu in Colorado

Since March 2022, the Colorado Department of Agriculture has led a response to the outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI).

HPAI continues to pose a threat to Colorado's domestic birds. Bird owners should maintain biosecurity measures such as keeping their flocks away from wild birds and not touching any dead wild birds.

Domestic bird owners should take extra precautions to avoid introducing the HPAI virus to their flocks, including:

  • Preventing interaction between domestic and wild birds
  • Keeping food and water sources away from migrating birds
  • Monitoring flocks for signs of illness or death

For more information regarding Avian Influenza including what flock owners should do and how to report sick birds or unusual deaths visit the Colorado Department of Agriculture.

Snow and Cold Weather Safety Reminders

Cold weather and snow are expected to continue throughout March and April. The Town of Bennett would like to remind residents of a few cold weather and snow safety tips.

  • When visiting Bennett Parks and Open Space East Pond (BRPOS), or any open body of water, stay away from the edge of the water and never walk out on ice that has formed over open water.
  • When shoveling snow on your property, please do not push it into the street. Piling the snow in the street makes it more difficult for our crews to do their job.
  • Please move your vehicles off the street so the plows can get through.
  • Give your tree branches a shake! The snow can pile up quickly on branches, and we want to prevent breakage and damage to trees.
