School Updates
Dear AL community,

We hit the ground running after break and continue to diligently work on school planning and improvements. Here are the latest updates.

The Safety and Wellbeing Committee met on Tuesday to review the progress of the installation of the intercom system and the Raptor setup in all three buildings. Next on the agenda is the analysis of the first-semester bullying and student injury data to make recommendations to the school administration. The committee invited a parent to share her presentation about the importance of installing air filters in each classroom to mitigate respiratory infections.

The Conseil d’Ecole (school advisory council) finalized the 2023-2024 school calendar at the last meeting. It will now be submitted to the board for approval in February and shared with our community shortly after. A representative of the ALIHS Student Council requested that the day after Halloween be a school improvement day to allow students to stay home. That request was factored into the calendar.

Summer school dates for 2023 will be Monday, June 5, to Friday, July 7. There will be no school on June 19, July 3, and July 4. We urge families to make vacation plans around summer school dates in order to maximize educational support for students and reduce learning loss due to the pandemic. This is especially important for our middle school students and high school students that need to recover credits.

Have a great weekend.

7th Grade Dignity Drive for Charity
Seventh graders are running a dignity drive for the charity "Giving the Basics". The drive started on January 9. This is one of several Service as Action projects that the students are taking part in. Service as Action is a foundational element of our IB Middle Years Programme. It calls all students to act in ways that positively impact local and global communities.
The 7th grade is collecting toiletries to give to Giving the Basics to support those who need them in our community. You can find the bins in the lobby of our Armour Campus.

What are the basics? The basics are human dignity products that are not covered by government assistance. They include deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, toilet paper, kleenex, baby wipes, diapers, incontinence pads, feminine hygiene products, soap, trash bags, dishwashing liquid, laundry soap, Ziploc bags, and cleaning solutions. They take any open or partially used toiletries, however, they do not accept expired toiletries.

Who needs the basics? Everyone deserves basic human dignity products. Some of our friends and neighbors may need these products during hard times in their lives. They may not want to ask for assistance because they may not want to expose the depth of their hardships but Giving the Basics wants to be sure human dignity products are available whenever needs occur.

Thank you in advance for your generosity. The drive will run until February 3.
