Wellness Day March 22

Our second all-school Wellness Day will be held on Wednesday, March 22. The day is centered around caring for students’ spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical wellness. Wellness Day will include talks by Catholic Evangelist Chika Anyanwu and BWHS Student Wellness Counselor Amanda Mensah, student council representatives leading class bonding activities, and teachers running wellness-based breakout sessions. To allow for students to eat lunch with their individual classes there will be no cafeteria service offered on this day. Students are asked to bring a packed lunch. We are looking forward to this day and hope students enjoy a day of self-care heading into the fourth quarter!

Fill Up the Truck March 24

Our Lenten tradition involving service to the community continues this spring with Fill Up the Truck! On two Friday mornings during Lent, teams of students challenge each other to collect the most items for an organization that serves those in need.

Our second Fill Up the Truck will be held on Friday, March 24. Teams will be collecting after-school snacks, protein soups, pasta, mac & cheese, cereal, canned fruits and vegetables, and boxed meals (like Hamburger Helper).

Health Office Updates

Vision Screenings

Vision screenings for students in grades 9 & 11 have begun and will continue after Spring Break. Referrals will be sent home via email to the guardian if a student does not pass a screening. If your student has already had a vision screening in the last 12 months, please have them reach out to me via email to opt out of this screening. If your family has any specific concerns please contact our nurse, Angela Spangler, aspangler@columbus.k12.oh.us.

Vaccination Requirements for Students Entering 12th Grade for 2023-24

The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) requires students who will be in 12th grade to receive ONE OR TWO doses of the meningococcal vaccine (MCV4) prior to the beginning of the 2023-24 school year.

The ODH is requiring a meningococcal vaccine to protect your child against meningococcal disease which is a serious, life-threatening, vaccine-preventable infection. This bacterial infection can cause an inflammation of the lining of the brain and spinal cord or sepsis (an infection of the bloodstream). Approximately 1,000 cases of meningococcal disease occur in the United States each year. The bacteria are spread by exchanging respiratory and throat secretions during close or lengthy contact.

Click here for information from ODH.

Vaccines can be administered by your pediatrician or your county health department.

A copy of your child's immunization record or a signed note from the physician will suffice for the documentation which must include the day, month and year of the vaccine(s).

Spring Kairos Signups Close FRIDAY

Now that seniors have celebrated the milestone of turning in their English papers, encourage them to sign up for an experience that seniors routinely say is one of the best experiences they have during their time at BWHS. Kairos is a powerful opportunity to take some time away from the busyness of life and reflect, time to have fun with peers, have meaningful conversations and time to experience God's love. No matter where your senior is on the faith journey, Kairos has something to offer. Scholarships are available.

Click here for the registration form, due by March 10. Registration form and a $100 deposit will guarantee a spot.

We often find an excuse not to pray. We would like to offer you an excuse to pray and a chance to come join us in prayer. Each Wednesday we have Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. We begin with Exposition at 7:30 a.m. and continue through the school day until 1:30 p.m. when we have Benediction. Throughout the day, Theology classes take turns spending some time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. You are invited to join us. If you are interested, please follow this link to sign-up. If there is any change to the schedule, we will be sure to keep you informed. Thank you for your willingness to pray with us and for your example of prayer for our students.
