Today we commemorate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As a Mercy school, we commit ourselves to building the beloved community of which Dr. King dreamed. Inspired by faith, we pursue a personal relationship with God, and strenuously follow Jesus Christ's example of social justice, love and service. Let us pray for peace and unity with Dr. King’s own words.

Ever present God, you called us to be in relationship with one another and promised to dwell wherever two or three are gathered. In our community, we are many different people; we come from many different places, have many different cultures. Open our hearts that we may be bold in finding the riches of inclusion and the treasures of diversity among us. We pray in faith. Amen. ~ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Further inspired by the parable of the Good Samaritan, we will hear the cries of our neighbor. We will speak with love, be the light that enlightens the world, and act with justice for all our brothers and sisters.

We thank you God for the gift of this day.
