Plein Air Weekend announced for September

September 28 - October 1, 2023

 

MMAM is proud to be a presenting partner of the River Arts Alliance’s inaugural event, Flora & Fauna - The Plein Air Experience, in Winona, MN. Featuring workshops led by renowned artists, Fred Somers, Kami Mendlik, and David R. Smith, a weekend long invitational plein air exhibition, presentations, and a public opening reception. All centered around the celebration of the Upper Mississippi’s flora and fauna, and presented en plein air.

The Minnesota Marine Art Museum is excited to partner with the Winona Symphony Orchestra to bring you Water Music, evenings that marry two art forms and celebrate their shared inspiration.


We continue our collaborative concerts this season by featuring artwork from Minnesota artists, including a Minnesota composer, printmaker and author.

MMAM Workshops | Paddle Making

June 24 - 25, 2023

 

Unlock a lifetime exploring the quiet, waking river backwaters or northwoods lakes by learning to make your own canoe paddle. Take this two-day canoe paddle making workshop is open people of all abilities ages 14+. This Studio Arts Workshop from the Minnesota Marine Art Museum is presented in partnership with Waking Worlds Exhibition Hospitality Partner Sanborn Canoe Company in their Winona based shop.

Youth Art Month

March 2023


March is National Youth Art Month! MMAM is proud to partner with the Winona Area Public Schools and Art Educators of Minnesota to help celebrate and support quality art education in our schools. A small sample of amazing artworks created by local students this school year will be displayed in the Oberton Education Room throughout the month of March.

The Birds and Flowers of Keinen Imao


Born in Kyoto, Japan, Keinen Imao (1845-1922) studied classical Japanese painting, calligraphy, and printmaking. He spent most of his life creating works of art that celebrated the beauty and diversity of the natural world. Keinen specialized in kachō-e, highly detailed depictions of birds among native Japanese plants and flowers.

Ronin Gallery

The artwork in the current exhibition at MMAM, Keinen Kachō Gafu: The Bird and Flower Prints of Keinen Imao, is on loan from the Ronin Gallery in New York, NY. This notable gallery exhibits and sells Japanese and East Asian Contemporary Art, and specializes in Japanese prints, with the largest collection in the United States. MMAM is grateful for the support and partnership with the Ronin Gallery!
