This is Dedicated...

One of my favorite things to do when I’m getting a book ready for publication is to write the dedication. I think of the dedication as a little stream of love and gratitude heading out into the world towards whoever/whatever inspired me. But I also love reading the dedication page whenever I begin reading something new. I’ve found that whoever/whatever the author chooses to honor here (usually) gives insight into his or her life, as well as the intention of the story I’m about to read.

Here are a few of my favorites. The books that are “clickable” are ones from my own shelf. The others I’ve included because I thought they were pretty dang cool!

The Book Of Bright Ideas, by Sandra Kring
For those who longed to find a best friend,
and found it in themselves.
What We Keep, by Elizabeth Berg
To women who risk telling the hard truths.
Night Swimming, by Robin Schwarz
To my father, who gave me my love for words,
and to my mother, who told me to take typing as a backup.
I love you both, dearly.
Cosmos, by Carl Sagan:
In the vastness of space and immensity of time,
it is my joy to spend a planet and an epoch with Annie.
Austenland, by Shannon Lewis:
For Colin Firth–You’re a really great guy, but I’m married, so I think we should just be friends.

Okay, now that you’ve read some very clever dedications, here is mine for Dragonflies at Night: More Than a Love Story:
For Jeff: you and I are living proof
that love at first sight does exist.
For anyone who has ever walked through a dark time:
may Dragonfly lead you towards your own inner light.
For those who have loved and lost: may you know that you are not alone.

I'm not close to publishing Feathers in the Sand (yet), but I'm thinking about it and I'll share it with you when it's time.

Stories That Stir the Soul

This month I'm giving away TWO paperback copies of Night of Miracles by one of my favorite soul-stirring authors, Elizabeth Berg. I've been reading her novels since her very first one in the 90's, and she's the only author whose collection of books I own in hardcover.

This might just be my favorite Elizabeth Berg novel yet! Night of Miracles is full of lovable and immensely believable characters, acute sensory attention to detail, and a story that feels complete in word as well as in my heart. This is one of those books that I wanted to read all over again as soon as I finished the last page and I think that you will love it too!

If you want to enter, just fill out the short form here and I'll do a random drawing THIS SUNDAY December 19. I'll send you an email notice that you've won, and I'll just ask for your snail mail address after that! (NOTE: I use the random generator at random.org to choose the winners.)
Greetings! I'm so happy that you've spent a little time with me today, read my author newsletter and for your commitment to reading Stories That Stir the Soul. That's me to the right, four years old! Next to me is part of the dollhouse that my parents made for me out of a shipping box and various household items (now you know where my creativity comes from!).

Whatever holiday you celebrate this month, I wish each of you peace and light, both inner and outer. If you don't feel like celebrating right now because of a loss or other difficult situation, know that you are loved just as you are, and that whatever you do this month is perfectly fine.

Do YOU have a special holiday memory, or a special book about the holiday your celebrate that you like to read this time of year? Let me know! I'm always happy to hear from you via email (just click "reply" and say hello :) I happily reply to all questions and comments!

In between newsletters, I'll be posting more often on Instagram, my blog, and/or my Facebook Author page, so please visit me there too.

Stay as grateful as you can,
