Recognizing and Honoring February as National African American History Month
Students from Rancho Milpitas and Thomas Russell Middle Schools shared a special video resolution of Resolution 2023.26 Recognizing and Honoring February as National African American History Month, which was unanimously adopted by the Board of Education at the February 28 meeting.

NEW HIRE
MUSD hires new Supervisor of Transportation, Grounds, Vehicle Maintenance and Safety
The MUSD Board of Education unanimously approved the Superintendent's recommendation for the hiring of Alejandro Maharaj as the new Supervisor of Transportation, Grounds, Vehicle Maintenance and Safety.

"I appreciate this opportunity to be part of the shared goal to support students for MUSD," said Maharaj, who comes via Fremont where he worked in accounting, transportation and Covid response. "I hope to bring a sense of community and purpose to our department and ensure our entire district--from teachers, parents and students--can depend of the services we provide."

Rancho MS 8th grade boys basketball team
The Rancho Milpitas Middle School 8th Grade Boys Basketball Team was honored by the MUSD Board of Education and District Leadership for completing an undefeated, league championship season.
Milpitas HS speech sensation Natalie Chen
Milpitas High School senior Natalie Chen was honored by the MUSD Board of Education and District leadership for winning the Rotary Club of Milpitas Speech Competition for the second straight year.

MUSD trains staff on administering
Naloxone to safeguard against Fentanyl
Program Manager, Student Services and Special Education Jillian Valdez led a Fentanyl Awareness Campaign presentation with the Board and community, sharing an update on the district's efforts for Fentanyl awareness, education, and Naloxone administration and the next steps.

Valdez will also help host a Fentanyl Awareness Family Presentation event on March 8 inside the Milpitas High School Library for all MUSD families.
Life Lab for Post Secondary Program nearing completion at MUSD Innovation Campus
Executive Director of Inclusive Services for All Learners Mary Jude Doerpinghaus was joined by Post-Secondary Teacher David Sorenson to share a Life Lab for Post Secondary Update at the February 28 meeting.

A residential “Life Lab,” which creates an apartment-like setting including a kitchen installed to teach daily life skills for post secondary learners, is being installed in Building 600 on the MUSD Innovation Campus. Staff worked with Paris Construction to develop a design-build solution for this purpose. In addition to installing new cabinets, flooring and a “residential kitchen,” Phase II includes the purchasing of furniture, fixtures and equipment such as dishes, towels, pots and pans, linens, etc.

Superintendent Cheryl Jordan shared her latest MUSD State of the District Update at the February 28, 2023 Board of Education meeting, sharing the latest COVID data and district-wide attendance averages.
