"Sharing the Joy"

Our church continues to grow with new families and expanding ministries! This past Sunday we voted to call a Deaconess to our church who will help us in expanding our Family Ministries, Women’s Ministries and our vision of an off-island mission/community center development. We are blessed that the Lord, through the Holy Spirit, continues to help us focus on our mission of Knowing and Sharing the Joy in Salvation Through Jesus Christ.

Last summer your leaders (Leadership Ministry Team) shared about our partnership with Jim Galvin, a respected LC-MS governance coach. In fact, about fifty of our members met Jim and were introduced to Policy Governance. A team of fifteen members of our ILC family agreed to step forward and work on the Transition Governance Team. These folks have been working hard, under the supervision Jim Galvin, to prepare for our conversation. Please thank them and keep them in your prayers. Here are the four teams.

There are two other ways you can help out in the upcoming weeks:

• Look for important transition documents which will be sent out over the next week or so. Study them and write down your questions to be shared with the Governance Transition Team.
• Plan to attend the Governance Transition Presentation
• Sunday, March 19, held during the Bible class (9:40 a.m.).

There will be further opportunities for questions and discussions on an as needed basis.

Your LMT has spent many hours reviewing and planning for this change and is unanimous in the view that God is leading us. We are grateful for the initial governance steps taken in 2021 by our congregation from a Council model to an Executive Governance model and believe we are well prepared for the next step into Policy Governance. We are thankful to the Lord for the many ways in which He is blessing our work together of “Knowing and Sharing the Joy of Salvation through Jesus Christ.” We are also blessed for the chance we have as a church family to explore the advantages of ongoing improvement in all areas, including our church governance structure. You are in our prayers; thank you for holding us up in prayer as well.

Shannon & Jon Eggert

Little Jack

We came to ILC in spring 2022 when Jon’s parents joined the church.  Shannon was pregnant at the time and we knew we wanted to find a strong family-based church that we could join.  ILC was the perfect fit!

We love the family atmosphere and everyone has been very welcoming.  We especially enjoy meeting everyone after Jack has cried through the majority of the service.  We also love visiting with Pastor Jeff and Pastor Kevin before and after each service.  They are incredible and great leaders for “the family”. 

Jon is originally from Greenville, South Carolina and Shannon is from State College, Pennsylvania (GO NITTANY LIONS!).  Jon moved to the area in 2014 for work and Shannon moved from Pennsylvania with her sister in 2015.  Jon and Shannon happened to both live in the same apartment complex on the Island and started dating in 2016.  In August 2020, Shannon and Jon got married and had their first son, Jack, in March 2022.  The Eggerts currently live in Bluffton with their three dogs, Lily, Rory, and Scout, who are not nearly as well behaved as Zoara.  Shannon is the Director of Human Resources at Coastal Security Services and Jon is an attorney at Burr & Forman.  In their free time, they enjoy taking Jack to the park, exploring new restaurants, and spending time with their family in the area.
