Dear Chartiers Valley Families,

On Friday, February 25, 2022, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) issued updated guidance regarding COVID-19 Community Prevention. The guidance is now based on a three-tier system (high, medium, and low) that takes into account the strain on local health care systems.

Using this new model, the CDC is dropping its recommendation for universal masking in schools and school buses/vans for communities in the medium or low tiers. Based on this metric, the Community Level for Allegheny County is currently considered low.

Masks will continue to be optional for anyone at Chartiers Valley School District. Furthermore, according to this latest update, masks are no longer required on CVSD buses and vans.

At this time, other forms of mitigation will remain in place, and the Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) guidelines regarding COVID-19 remain in effect. The District will communicate if ACHD modifies its measures based on new guidance from the CDC.

As the number of positive cases continues to decline, I am hopeful that we are seeing the light at the end of this very long tunnel.   Together, we have overcome many challenges in the past two years. Thank you, staff, students, and families, for the ongoing support and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Johannah M. Vanatta, Ed.D.
