Worship with Us this Sunday

January 1, 2023

10:00am In-person and Facebook Live or replay on Facebook later

It’s New Year’s Day and we are in the middle of the Twelve Days of Christmas!

Of course we will sing Christmas Carols and look at the passage from Ecclesiastes which proclaims there is a "season for everything." We will also remind ourselves at the start of a new year how important it is to care for one another (see the end of Matthew’s gospel).

We dedicated our financial pledges for 2023 last month. The Stewardship Commission is eager to receive additional pledge cards/emails. Thank you!

Please participate in worship virtually via our livestream on Facebook if that is convenient for you and/or if you have tested positive for Covid in the last 5 days.

Masks should be worn and respected for in-person worship under the following conditions:

1) You have tested positive for COVID 6-10 days ago and you still have symptoms;

2) You are in a high-risk group and/or have underlying conditions;

3) You are more comfortable wearing a mask.

In order to protect individuals and the wider community, we strongly encourage up-to-date vaccinations and boosters against all communicable diseases.

Twelfth Night Feast & Choral Festival

Thursday evening January 5th, 2023 – 6:30pm-8:30pm here at Parkway UCC

HEAR YE! HEAR YE! Mark your calendars now to attend this wrap-up of the Christmas Season. Multiple choirs, food and FUN! Loosely modeled after the ancient English tradition, we did it very successfully just before the Covid lock-down; after 3 years we’re re-starting the tradition! The “Festival” music starts at 6:30pm in the Sanctuary featuring several choirs and musicians, with the “Feast” starting at 7:30pm in the Fellowship Hall.

FREE ADMISSION, OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, so bring your friends and family. We just ask that everyone bring one plate of “heavy hors-d’ouevres” (about 12 portions) to share for the Feasting Table. Drinks (including non-alcoholic “wassail” punch) provided. Contact Music Director Barry: [email protected]

Ponder

A Little Carol

by Helen Morgan

Mary had a baby

One night, in Bethlehem—

Three wise men went to see her,

Taking gifts with them.

They made a special journey,

Star led, from distant lands.

But first to visit Mary

Were the men with careful hands.

God sent three quiet shepherds

Before God sent the kings,

For they are used to handling

Little newborn things.

Humor

My resolution was to read more... So I put the subtitles on my TV.

"I promise not to make any bad jokes for the rest of the year." — A dad on New Year's Eve.

An iPhone and a firework were arrested on New Year’s Eve. One was charged and the other was let off.

Where can you find comedians on New Year's Eve?

Waiting for the punchline.

Please take the time to read this piece from our friend John Pavlovitz. He shared it last week after Stephen tWitch Boss’ death by suicide. https://johnpavlovitz.com/2022/12/15/the-mask-of-mental-illness/
