Illinois Protects Libraries

BIG NEWS: House Bill 2789 passed the Senate! The bill supports public and school libraries and librarians and protects them against unprecedented censorship. This legislation sets forth that Illinois libraries would only be eligible for state-funded grants if they adhere to the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights or comply with the policies of the Illinois State Library, which includes prohibiting the practice of banning essential books and resources. #HB2789 #ILSOS. Governor Pritzker is expected to sign the legislation.

Kindergarten

All children who will be starting school in Oak Park this fall and their families are invited to celebrate the journey into a new galaxy that is not so very far away: kindergarten! This first-ever Blast off to Kindergarten event will celebrate little ones, but it also will help parents and caregivers connect to all the resources that will help jump-start a smooth transition to kindergarten for everyone involved. Join the Collaboration for Early Childhood on Sunday, May 21, from 10:00am-Noon at Rehm Park, 1000 S. Scoville. Kindergarten readiness is key! Register here for early updates to the day's events.

Annual Meeting

The business meeting will be followed by a presentation by Oak Park Village Trustee Ravi Parakkat. This evening meeting will take place at Brookdale Oak Park, 1111 Ontario.
