COVID-19 Update
Thanks to all our families again for your patience and help in dealing with the surge in Omicron cases over the first couple weeks of the semester. Positive cases have dropped significantly over the course of this week. Number of overall absences and absences related to illness have also declined. This reinforces what other areas are seeing with Omicron (i.e., that positive cases spike and then drop more quickly than previous strains of COVID-19). We processed testing in the morning every day this week and the vast majority of students (i.e., more than 90%) were able to come back to classes because they had a negative test.

Tests have been difficult to obtain—to the point where we had to cancel our Thursday Spectrum testing at the last minute when they did not receive their test shipment that day. We are testing this Thursday, January 27 again, and we continue to try and add other testing dates moving forward.

There was some confusion over county health protocols as new guidance was released that allowed for group contact tracing. The parameters of this would have created a logistics impossibility in a high school setting as it would have created the need to test every single student every single day based on the tracing protocols. We had to maintain our previous protocols that were already in place. The good news is that the stipulation that those in extracurricular activities need to quarantine an extra couple of days has been lifted, and now all students can return to school and activities with a negative test after five days.

I want to be hopeful that we are moving out of the last phase of this COVID-19 pandemic. Thank you for your continued cooperation with keeping your students home when they are sick.

Hackathon

Game On
It's been GAME ON all season long! Soccer is currently ranked #1 in the state and #2 in the nation by Prep Soccer with a 11-0-1 record heading into the weekend. The Cougars are in for a great season.
COVID-19 Procedures
Masking
Strict masking policies will continue being enforced as they have been for the past two years. KN95 masks are now the most widely recommended respirator. Here are some mask guidelines from the CA Dept of Public Health.
Vaccinations
The FDA has now expanded the use of booster shots to ages 12-15. We encourage everyone to get vaccinations/booster shots to help ensure that we can maintain our in-person environment based upon county protocols.

Isolation/Quarantine Protocols
Here is a link to the current protocols from CDPH regarding the new five-day isolation/quarantine time frame.

  • Students that are positive or who have tested positive, please email the attendance office and either VP Reinwald or Principal Cushing.
  • Students must have a negative test to return to school if they tested positive. That test must be administered by a healthcare provider or school admin. Schoolwide antigen testing dates qualify.
  • Students needing to test to return to school are encouraged to bring their own, unopened rapid tests to the Main office and the test will be administered by a Carondelet admin.

Secure COVID-19 tests for your family
As you may have heard, the government is providing at-home COVID-19 tests via the USPS. If you haven't already done so order your at-home tests, free of charge. The link will take you to the USPS site where you will enter your contact information and shipping address. COVID-19 tests will start shipping in late January. USPS will only send one set of four, free at-home COVID-19 tests to each residential address.
