We Want Your Feedback

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our school district, we are considering a new transportation plan. We continue to experience very challenging situations at the building level due to a severe shortage of available drivers that also impacts our family's daily routines. We would save approximately $150,000 per year by moving to a 2.5-tiered structure as well as improving the consistency of service.

The considered plan involves creating a 2.5-tier schedule requiring an adjustment to school start times. This would allow us to consolidate our bus routes and reduce the number of buses required, resulting in cost savings for the district. This would also result in improved staffing levels to ensure a continuity of services and less disruption.

Here is a link from the board work session on Tuesday, February 14, where the new plan was discussed. More detailed information about the proposed transportation plan can be viewed by clicking here. We encourage you to review the presentation and consider the benefits and potential challenges of the proposed plan.(see below for proposed school start/end times)

After reviewing the information, we ask that you complete this feedback form to share your thoughts on the proposed plan. Your input is valuable to us, and we appreciate your time and effort in helping us make informed decisions regarding the future of our school district. We believe that your feedback will help us to make the best decisions for our students, parents, and the community as a whole.

Thank you for taking the time to review the proposed transportation plan and providing feedback. Feedback form closes on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.

Community Conversations – Fiscal Planning

We would like to invite you to participate in a collaborative conversation to provide feedback on proactive long-term financial planning, state funding, and facility improvements.

Kings Superintendent Greg Sears and Kings Treasurer Mike Morrow will be facilitating the conversations on February 28 at 7:00 pm at Columbia Intermediate School and March 1 at 7:00 pm at South Lebanon Elementary.

Both sessions will be the exact same, so please feel free to attend the one that is most convenient for you. We expect each session to take approximately one hour. Your participation is crucial to ensuring that we create a plan that best serves our community. We value your input and look forward to hearing your ideas and suggestions as we work together to create a plan for the future of our school district.

We hope to see you at one of these sessions, and we thank you in advance for your time and input.

We’re proud of our schools that help your children learn and grow. THANK YOU to our dedicated teachers and staff for keeping our students safe, learning, and growing this year. Visit publicschoolproud.org to learn more about how you can help and support your local public schools.

Nick Hoying Receives That's My Boy Award

On Thursday, February 23, the Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the National Football Foundation held its 56th Annual Scholar-Athlete Banquet to award the prestigious That’s My Boy Award. The Award is given annually to a senior football player who exemplifies excellence based on football achievements, academic accomplishments, and extra-curricular activities.

This year, the banquet honored fourteen local senior high school football players and four local college football players. Kings had an unprecedented two finalists for the award – Kings High School seniors Nick Hoying and Michael Mussari. It is unusual to have two nominees from the same school. Both Nick and Michael were an integral part of the Kings High School Football Program.

Student-athletes are nominated by their coaches based on football achievements, academic accomplishments, and other extra-curricular activities. It is regarded by many as the most prestigious award a high school football player can earn.

We are proud to announce that this year's overall winner for the That's My Boy award is Nick Hoying. “Nick's performance on the field is a direct reflection of his perspective and work ethic off the field,” Kings head coach Alex Garvin said. Nick holds a GPA of 4.0 and has committed to play football at Bucknell University this fall.

Hoying is the second recipient of the award from Kings, joining Brad Maurer (2003).

Black History Month

Above the Rim

Thank You, Omu

Black is a Rainbow Color

We told you a few weeks ago about a collaboration between Kings High School and Kings Mills Elementary for Black History Month with their project, Celebrating Black Lives in Literature.

Each partnership collaborated by reading and interacting with each other and designing a door to honor Black Lives in Literature through authors, illustrators, historical figures, and/or characters. Our staff and students showed great creativity!

This week, KME 4th graders visited KHS, and KHS students visited KME to look at the decorated doors. Students and staff voted on their favorites, and the winners are:

1st Place: Above the Rim: Mr. Crusie - KME/Mrs. Nichols - KHS

2nd Place: Thank You, Omu: Mrs.Schriever - KME/Ms. Allen-Harman - KHS

3rd Place: Black is a Rainbow Color: Mrs. Farris - KME/Mrs. Goldie - KHS

Check out the doors here.

KHS Students & Staff Serve in Mexico

Forty-five students and five chaperones traveled to Monterrey, Mexico over the Presidents Day holiday to volunteer with Back2Back Ministries.

Co-Organizers Andy Endress and Alex Garvin have been making the trip with Kings students for several years. While in Mexico, our students make connections with orphans and complete projects at the orphanage. Kings High School teacher, Katlyn Gilbert said it was an amazing trip. "To witness our students' best qualities personified this past week was incredibly powerful. It unequivocally confirmed how kind, hard-working, and compassionate our kids are. They worked so hard and really bonded as a community," she said.

Elementary STEAM Showcase Was a Success

Kings Mills Elementary was the place to be on Thursday, February 23 for the first ever Elementary STEAM Showcase.

The school's gymnasium and cafeteria were packed with STEAM projects from individuals and classes. We found projects on volcano's, shoes, water, circuits and electricity, how to scribble without your hand, and more.

We spent some time live at KME during the showcase. We interviewed some of our students and teachers. Check it out here. Special thanks to the KHS Women in STEM organization for volunteering at the event.

KHS NAHS Visits Glass Business

Kings High School National Art Honor Society members took a field trip on Friday, February 24 to Neusole Glassworks.

They witnessed a demonstration by the skilled instructors and artists at Neusole Glassworks on the delicate art of blowing handmade pitchers and bowls in their hot shop. The instructors not only shared their journey of becoming expert glassblowers but also explained the intricate process step by step, taking the time to answer any questions the students had.

Following the demo, each student had the unique opportunity to work with hot glass, expertly guided by experienced instructors, and create their very own hand-blown glass flower. The students were accompanied by KHS NAHS adviser, Art teacher, Carrie Cooke.
