Evidence-Based Equity Strategies Across the Curriculum (today!)
In this workshop, part of the Enacting Equity Series, we'll explore the gamut of ways to evaluate teaching for professional growth and improvement of student learning. Rebecca Scott will present action research as a frame for enacting equity in your classroom and participants will get the opportunity to apply evaluation methods in their own course contexts.

The Academy is here to support all full-time and adjunct faculty at Harper. We continue to be available remotely as well as on campus for drop-in support. In addition to providing instructional and Blackboard support (including informal, 1:1 support), we also develop resources to help faculty prepare for the semester and facilitate workshops and programming throughout the semester. The Campus Free Speech and Free Expression Series will address the challenges of complying with the First Amendment’s right to freedom of speech and expression while maintaining a safe and inclusive campus. The series began with an overview of the legal principles of the First Amendment and how they apply to higher education settings (recording available). The following sessions will focus on free expression in and out of classroom settings. The sessions will be held virtually and each session will include case studies and opportunities for audience participation. See dates and times and add the sessions to your calendar.
A new Standards of Academic Performance (SOAP) policy was vetted and approved for implementation through Harper’s Shared Governance process in 2019; this new policy will begin in the Spring 2022 semester. Learn more using the link above.

The Assessment Institute, hosted by Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, is the oldest and largest higher education event in the United States focused on assessment and improvement. Are you interested in getting involved or have success stories to share? If yes, consider submitting a proposal for next year’s conference.

Teaching in the Age of Disinformation

Great question. Media literacy might be an overdue conversation in your circle but is a connection that we all now have. It’s tough, invigorating, and frankly, required teaching.
There’s a documentary entitled, TRUST ME, that I have incorporated into my media literacy sessions with students this semester. “The documentary explores human nature, information technology, and the need for media literacy to help people trust one another, bring them together and create a more resilient population.” The response has been phenomenal. Watch it. Get your students to watch it. And ask a librarian how information literacy can be worked into your courses. Can’t wait to continue this conversation with you!
