North Dakota's economy continues to rebound from the pandemic. The state's tax commissioner has released the taxable sales and purchases report for the third quarter of 2021. Williston and Williams County were among the top four cities and counties with the highest percentage of increase (compared to the third quarter of 2020). Notably, the mining and oil extraction sector increased by $111 million (a 37.3% increase). For more information, see the news release below.

Dr. Kemp, Chief Peterson win Chamber Awards

Williston Herald - The Williston Area Chamber of Commerce held their annual awards banquet on Friday, Jan 14, honoring the individuals and organizations that work to enhance the Williston community. The ceremony was held at the Old Armory in Williston, and presented the Chamber Connector, Community Engagement, Champion of Agriculture, Generation Next, E. Ward Koeser Advocacy and Williston Leadership Awards, along with the Distinguished Western Star. Read More
Chamber seeks New President,
relocates to New Armory

News Release - Williston Area Chamber of Commerce Interim President, Rochelle Villa, has announced that she will be leaving the Chamber, effective January 21st, 2022. Villa has served in the role of Membership & Engagement Manager since August of 2019 and has been interim President since the departure of Rachel Richter Lordemann in November 2021. Meanwhile, the Chamber is relocating to the New Armory in Downtown Williston. The move will begin on January 27. Read More

Williston Downtowners Annual Meeting
to be held January 28

News Release - The Williston Downtowners Association will hold its Annual Meeting at 8:00 a.m., Friday, January 28 at the James Memorial Art Center. A light breakfast will be served and a presentation will be given on the events of 2021, a financial review and a look ahead to 2022. Everyone is invited to attend. Read More
1 Million Cups to meet February 2

Williston Economic Development - The next 1 Million Cups meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 2, at 8:30 a.m. at the Daily Addiction Coffee House. The meeting will be held in person and via Facebook Live. The presenters will be Martie Abell, owner of The Pick & Patch and Kari Downer, owner of Nutrition and Beyond.
Third Quarter Taxable Sales and Purchases up nearly 30 Percent in Williston, Williams County

News Release - Tax Commissioner Brian Kroshus announced Wednesday, January 19, 2022, that North Dakota’s taxable sales and purchases for the third quarter of 2021 are up 12.1% compared to the same timeframe in 2020. Taxable sales and purchases for July, August, and September of 2021 were $5.32 billion. “The upward trend in the third quarter shows economic growth,” Kroshus said. “I am optimistic that the trend will continue, as the economy stabilizes from the impacts of the pandemic.” Read More
November Oil Production up 4.4 Percent

Williston Herald - Throughout North Dakota’s oil and gas recovery, North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources Director Lynn Helms has been careful to manage expectations for oil production, downplaying the probability of any large leaps. But November pleasantly surprised with a 48,000 or so barrel per day increase, which is an overall 4.4 percent jump in production to 1.16 million barrels of oil per day. Read More
New Owners purchase Longtime Sidney Business

Sidney Herald - On Feb. 1, 2022 Johnson Hardware and Furniture will be under new ownership. Kyle and Emily Medearis of Baker, Montana will be the new owners of Sidney’s oldest retail store. “We’re excited!” Kyle Medearis said. “This is a business that has been a part of Sidney for almost as long as there has been a Sidney, Montana.” The new owners don’t plan any big changes out of the gate. In fact, they plan to keep things pretty much the same. The entire staff will be retained and the name will not change. Read More
Watford City's Veeder releases Children's Book

Roundup - North Dakota writer and musician, Jessie Veeder, released her first childrens' book, "Prairie Princess" this month. To celebrate, she is touring libraries statewide to conduct a reading, signing, discussion and creative activity for all ages. She will be at Door 204, Watford City 4:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 21.
