Mark Youngblood

Everybody has a story…

Mark started with a high school graduation gift of a camera. He had every intention of going to college to study engineering, but his new camera gave him a new passion. Changing his major to Art, Mark studied at Shepherd University with a focus on Photography. After college, Mark worked for various publications as a freelance or staff photographer, following dirt track racing and NASCAR, until opening his own studio full time.

As a photography teacher at Barbara Ingram School for the Arts since its opening, Mark shares his love and knowledge of photography. Mark loves teaching his students to use film and to process their own photos. Watching them create their own art is the true gift.

Mark decided early on he wanted to stand out from the rest and wants the same for you; your pictures – your way!

TICKETS ON SALE NOW FOR MAY 20&21 ORCHESTRA CONCERT

IN SHEPHERDSTOWN

The Friends of Music will present two performances of a Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra concert in Shepherdstown during the May 20-21 weekend.

The first performance will be at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday the 20th the second will be a 3:00 p.m. matinee on Sunday, the 21st.

Both performances will be held in the Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church at 100 West Washington Street.

The concert is entitled "Folk 'n Fancy." The program will include performances of the Romanian Folk Dances of 20th Century Hungarian composer Béla Bartok; a work entitled "Elegy" by Amanda Harberg, a contemporary American composer; the Concertante in B flat major by Franz Danzi, a German contemporary of Beethoven's; and the Symphony No. 1 in D major by 19th Century French composer Charles Gounod.

The featured soloists will be three principal members of the Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra: Jason Diggs, viola; Barbara Spicher, flute; and David Drosinos, clarinet. The Friends' music director, Jed Gaylin, will conduct.

Gaylin said the music to be played "moves from the gutsy, earthy sounds of Bartok’s authentic portrayal of the folk melodies and rhythms of Romania to the elegant sparkle of both Danzi’s Concertante and Gounod’s effervescent First Symphony." He said the Harberg Elegy is a "stunningly lyrical work."

Admission to the concert will be free for Friends of Music members. The ticket price for others will be $40 per person. Tickets can be purchased on the Friends' website at www.friendswv.org; or by mail (FOM, PO Box 220, Shepherdstown, WV 25443); or, if space is available, at the church at both performances. Visa and Master Card will be accepted. For more information, contact the Friends' office at info@friendswv.org or 304-876-5765.

The Friends of Music is a local non-profit organization that was founded in 1999 to support and promote musical excellence in the Eastern Panhandle. The Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra was established by the Friends in 2007 and held its first concert in the fall of 2008. Gaylin has been music director since 2012. He also serves as the music director of Baltimore's Hopkins Symphony Orchestra and the Bay Atlantic Symphony in New Jersey, and he is the Principal Guest Conductor of the Cape May, NJ, Music Festival.

This season's Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra concerts are once again being presented with generous financial assistance from the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts. The Friends of Music also receives generous support from the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation's Deltev and Mary Ellen Preissler Fund for the Arts, the Nora Roberts Foundation, and Ecolab. Jefferson Distributing and John Gibson, DDS—Family Dentistry are sustaining corporate sponsors. Other corporate sponsors include Jefferson Security Bank; City National Bank; and Heifi Johnston, of Keller Williams Realty.

Landscapes & Legends of Norway: William Singer & His Contemporaries, May 27–Sept. 17, 2023. Beat the summer heat with a visit to the mountains of Norway. Museum founder William Henry Singer, Jr. loved the Norwegian landscape and painted it in all seasons — from the cool greens of spring to the icy blues of glacial winters. This exhibition uses Singer’s work and that of his contemporaries in the museum collection to look at the impact of Norway on the imaginations of various artists. A series of watercolors depicting Norse legends (yes, Loki and Thor) by American artist Frank Morse Rummel are also a highlight of the exhibition. Organized by the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts from its permanent collection. Generous support for this exhibition has been provided by James & Melinda Marsden and Paul & Lotta Mellott.
