Understanding Non-Apparent Disabilities
January 12, 2023
Noon - 1:15pm

You must register receive the zoom invitation.

People with disabilities are the largest minority and fastest-growing subgroup of our population. Over 70% of disabilities are non-apparent, so we are not necessarily aware that our friends, colleagues, clients, or neighbors have them. It is important to recognize that just because we can’t see a disability that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. This session will encourage an open dialog that will help attendees to “always ask, never assume” if a person needs assistance or has a disability.

The Valuable Five Hundred
New Research Names World’s Most Accessible Cities
by Shaun Heasley | December 16, 2022
A Valuable 500 survey is pinpointing the 10 most accessible cities around the globe for people with disabilities.
Domestically, Las Vegas, New York and Orlando, Fla. are tops for travelers in this population, according to the study conducted by the Valuable 500, a group of CEOs from major companies including Apple, Google, Coca-Cola and Procter & Gamble that have committed to disability inclusion. The collective of business leaders first formed at the 2019 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
Outside the U.S., other cities making the list include Amsterdam, Paris, Shanghai, London, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo. The designation is based on the results of a survey of 3,500 travelers with disabilities globally. They were asked to rate cities based on the proximity of accommodations to various attractions and the availability of accessibility information.
“Our research shows that across both the public and private sectors in travel and tourism industry, these cities consistently score well in the accessibility rankings,” said Caroline Casey, founder of the Valuable 500. “However, worldwide, tourist boards still aren’t making the necessary headway to remove the physical and ethical barriers to ensure cities are truly accessible for all.”
A separate report from the Valuable 500 found that people with disabilities experience significant barriers while traveling. In a survey of 1,000 U.S. travelers with disabilities, the group found that two-thirds face stressful and unsafe situations due to accessibility issues and 20% reported feeling unsafe and scared while traveling.
NILG Your Opinion Matters Proposed OFCCP Scheduling Letter Survey
January 6, 2023 Deadline

The Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) recently announced proposed changes to the Scheduling Letter & Itemized Listing used to initiate compliance evaluations of federal contractors and has invited comments on the proposal. The National Industry Liaison Group (NILG) is preparing a comment and seeks information from contractors regarding the OFCCP’s estimates of the burden of these changes. For example, the OFCCP estimates that the additional data requests will increase contractors’ response time by 11 hours – from 28 to 39 hours.
Comments must be submitted by January 20, 2023, and the NILG, therefore, requests your feedback no later than January 6, 2023. We encourage you to review the OFCCP’s proposed changes (linked above) prior to responding to ensure that you have a complete understanding of the information to be sought and the implications for your organization. In fact, we recommend that you have the information available as you work through the survey questions.
The survey includes 22 questions, and we estimate that responding will take 15 – 30 minutes. In addition to the multiple-choice answers, you have the ability to provide more specific feedback to each question, and we encourage you to do so.
Thank you for your participation and responses! This information will be an important component of the NILG’s comment, which will represent the entire contractor community.

Organization Wide Accessibility Everyone Plays a Part
Wednesday
February 15, 2023
2:00 - 3:00 pm ET

Accessibility is the foundation of an inclusive, supportive workplace. To ensure access for all employees, organizations must focus on and prioritize all aspects of accessibility, including physical and digital accessibility. Examples include barrier-free access to buildings and accessible information and communication technologies, including websites and online job applications.
To support all employees, including those with disabilities, it’s important that staff at every level understand and embrace a holistic and organization-wide accessibility plan. With an “Accessibility is Everyone’s Responsibility” attitude, organizations will yield numerous benefits including increased productivity, a diverse applicant talent pool, long-term employee retention and a larger often more loyal customer base. In addition, employers with positive, welcoming attitudes toward accessibility can strengthen their organization’s overall diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility and belonging efforts.
In this webinar, panelists will offer effective strategies employers can use to develop and sustain a fully accessible workplace. Topics to be discussed include:
  • The importance of whole-organization accessibility;
  • Strategies for initiating, developing, and sustaining an organization-wide
  • accessibility plan;
  • Generating buy-in from all employees at all levels; and
  • Creating an organization where “Accessibility is Everyone’s Responsibility.”
