Observations and Celebrations in February
|
|
Since 1976, every American president has designated February as Black History Month and endorsed a specific theme.
The Black History Month 2023 theme, “Black Resistance,” explores how "African Americans have resisted historic and ongoing oppression, in all forms, especially the racial terrorism of lynching, racial pogroms, and police killings," since the nation's earliest days.
Ways to support and celebrate Black History Month intentionally:

World Day of Social Justice
|
World Day of Social Justice is observed annually on February 20.
It is meant to remind people that advocacy and activism are what love and justice look like. It is to uphold the principles of social justice by promoting gender equality, and the rights of indigenous peoples and migrants; it is meant to advance social justice by dismantling and removing barriers that people face because of gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture, or disability.
This year's theme will focus on the recommendations of Our Common Agenda to strengthen global solidarity and to re-build trust in government by “Overcoming Barriers and Unleashing Opportunities for Social Justice”

International Mother Language Day
|
International Mother Language Day is a worldwide annual observance to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and promote multilingualism. Linguistic diversity is increasingly threatened as more and more languages disappear. “One language disappears on average every two weeks, taking with it an entire cultural and intellectual heritage.” ~UNESCO Thus, this day is about preserving and celebrating one’s native tongue, and learned tongues. This year's theme is “Multilingual education – a necessity to transform education".

February is National 211 Month. This month we join hundreds of United Ways and 211 organizations across the United States in building awareness about 211 as a free community resource and celebrating the work we do to put community services at the fingertips of all who need them.
As a CIE partner or supporter, you already know 211 San Diego well! In 2005, many partners, including many of you joined our small staff of 25, to launch the first and only 2-1-1 service in our region. For nearly two decades, we have been providing multilingual access to services like yours.
You not only made 211 what we are today, but you also worked with us to build the nation’s first Community Information Exchange®.
Thank you for your commitment to 211 San Diego to ensure our region can build and connect to resources to be safe, resilient, and informed.
In the spirit of gratitude, we would love to share public recognition of your excellent work across our 211 San Diego social media platforms. If you have any programs or successes that you would like us to publicly highlight, email Kassandra Castañeda our Marketing Manager, 211 San Diego/CIE.

The CIE Partner Network works to improve the overall service delivery system for clients. Our meeting provides a forum for partners to share updates about ongoing CIE Initiatives, share trends in our community, and collaborate on how we as a network are leveraging our partnership, data sharing, and the CIE technology platform to address the social determinants of health and increase health equity.
Join us for a range of content. Each month, we may dive into the latest technology projects, elicit feedback on the platform’s care coordination tools, or spotlight programs and supports for unique populations. The partner gathering is a space to engage with peers across our shared network. Join us on the 4th Thursday of every month (except November and December) at 9:00 am via zoom.
The next CIE Partner gathering is on March 23, 2023, at 9 am.
