FMA Legislative Session Summary
Florida Medical Association

|
The laws that pass each year affect your ability to provide the best health care for your patients. The FMA made great strides getting legislation passed that will help physicians practice medicine. Your FMA team of lobbyists tracked 310 bills and numerous amendments that either directly or indirectly concerned the practice of medicine in Florida. We are proud to report the following victories for Florida physicians:
- Stopped ALL scope-of-practice bills.
- Secured $6 million in annual funding for medical education loan forgiveness for primary care physicians practicing in underserved areas.
- Extended the Covid malpractice reform protections another year.
- Halted wrongful death legislation that would have increased malpractice premiums in Florida.
- Protected physicians performing emergency care for children at the scene of accident.
- Given physicians the ability to prescribe schedules III, IV and V controlled substances via telehealth.
