FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Chris Holden | @MonsieurHolden | 952.848.4100

Dear Normandale Families,

Part of the Edina School’s mission is to create a “…caring and inclusive school culture that supports the whole student.” As part of our work towards that goal Normandale and the other Edina elementary schools will be administering the Panorama Education wellness screener to students in grades 3-5 beginning next week. This same screener was administered to students last year and that data serves as both a baseline for Normandale’s work to support the whole student and as a tool to help guide our social, emotional learning (SEL) work.

Last year’s results showed that students struggle with emotional regulation. In response to this need, Normandale’s mini-assemblies by grade-level (known as CLTs) have focused on helping students identify challenging emotions and strategies for regulating them.

In addition, as we work to rebuild community after the pandemic, Normandale’s specialists teachers (art, music, PE, etc.) have been intentionally connecting with students that need additional adult interaction. The work our teachers and staff do around SEL is on-going and we are hopeful that our efforts will show in the Panorama survey results.

READ-A-THON MONTH IS HERE!

Our annual Read-A-Thon is underway!

La lecture, j'assure! Reading is my Superpower!

Minutes reading means minutes learning. Our goal for the Normandale Read-a-Thon is to encourage and celebrate students' reading. Their habits of reading will develop lifelong learners, whether they read with imagination or read for information.

Sign up here to track your students' reading minutes during the month of February! Families log minutes at home and teachers log minutes at school.
