West Allis-West Milwaukee School District's Music Education Program Receives National Recognition

We are proud to announce that our District’s music program has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education.  This is the ninth time that the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District’s music program has received national recognition from the NAMM Foundation.

“Music education is an important component of our curriculum 4K through 12th grade.  As part of our Equity Beliefs, we work with our teachers to provide opportunities for all students utilizing the Deeper Learning Competencies.  We focus on communication, collaboration, public performance, immediate feedback, and a sense of belonging in Music and Fine Arts, by supporting our children in developing their talents and pursuing things of interest to them. I am proud of our work and the dedication of our teachers in serving the children in our community. And this year I was able to participate as a performer with band and orchestra on several occasions which makes that work even more special” said Superintendent, Dr. Marty Lexmond.

Franklin Greenhouse Project

Earlier this month, 4th/5th graders at Franklin Elementary worked on assembling a "greenhouse"! With the support and partnership of Trevor (head custodian) and Matt Johnson (teacher at Central) students helped with assembly and construction.

Students have learned so much from this project, including how to measure, create proposals as well as the bio-diversity of our Franklin grounds.
