Happy New Year

Happy New Year to you and your family!

As this new year begins, I want to take a moment to reflect on the past year and to be thankful for the support of you all, my friends and loyal clients. I truly love the work I do! And even more, I love the people I've been able to meet and help over the 23 years that I have been doing massage. Cheers to another year!

My word for 2022 was Balance. I feel I did a good job learning to "balance" in many areas of life over the year. Balance to me is feeling all the feelings, the good and the not so great. It's finding time for both responsibilities and for pleasure. Balance is knowing there are ups and downs in life and deciding to learn and from the downs and to fully experience and enjoy the ups.

I enjoyed balancing all of the fun times with friends and family, and plenty of slow times spent on the couch watching shows and sports with my boys or reading a good book. (I finished 27 books this year!)

I practiced choosing balance in my work and created some boundaries around my schedule.

I strived for balance between time with others and time for myself.

I balanced difficult workouts on my Peloton with a daily gentle stretching and rolling routine.

There were high times like having Ethan home for the summer, the week we spent in Mexico and watching Cade play baseball for his high school. And there were lower times like car troubles, getting Covid right before Christmas and managing feelings of having adult children and changing traditions.

In my search to accomplish balance, I realized that we also need flexibility to remain balanced. There will be times when we falter off our life's balance beam, and I needed to be flexible when figuring out how I could jump back on.

I will never achieve perfect balance at all times, but I've learned how to create a more balanced life and I look forward to continuing these new commitments to myself and those in my life.

So that brings me to this new year. I haven't yet picked my word for 2023, but I've got a few swirling around that I'm contemplating. I find having a word or phrase for the year helps me create and work towards goals, professionally and personally. This word becomes a guiding focus for the year ahead and it takes a lot of thought to pick. I'd love to hear what your word or phrase will be for this new year! I hope 2023 is off to a great start!

Peace and love,

Bryn Rath
