Seniors Enjoy Performance by The Cleveland Orchestra
Last Friday, the Class of 2022 visited Severance Hall and enjoyed a performance by The Cleveland Orchestra. This annual tradition gives Seniors another opportunity to create a lifelong appreciation of the arts and the world-class cultural institutions our region provides.

The concert “Mahler’s Titan” featured soprano, Fatma Said and was conducted by Stéphane Denève.
Graphic Design Students Create Environmental Designs
Independent Graphic Design III students presented a quarter-long environmental project focused on designing various surfaces for the Academy’s Howley Makerspace innovation lab. Students completed an extensive research and ideation process to design signage and environmental graphics for walls, windows, tables and more. The designs included a strong, cohesive color palette, a variety of visual elements and interactive components created intentionally for each zone of the innovation lab.

This project showcased the students' extensive knowledge of spatial, graphic and interior design for a large-scale project. We are so proud of our students' great work and many talents! Check out more photos here.
Fathers, Father-Figures & Daughters Dance the Night Away
Last Saturday, fathers/father-figures and daughters gathered at Brennan's Party Center to celebrate their special bond at the annual Father-Daughter Dance. After enjoying dinner, they danced the night away. Seniors were presented with roses and received special recognition alongside their father/father-figures.

We hope attendees had a memorable night! Click here to view the evening's photo album.
Leaders Share Insights at Women’s Leadership Symposium
On Wednesday, Freshmen and Sophomores gathered for a day filled with inspiring stories and personalized guidance during Saint Joseph Academy's 15th annual Women's Leadership Symposium. This annual event is designed to connect students with female leaders, many of whom are alumnae, to understand career opportunities and the journeys taken to reach them.

New this year, the speakers presented both in-person and virtually and focused on four different pathways: Engineering & Design, Health Sciences, Global and Business & Entrepreneurship. Students learned about engineering professions including biomedical, structural, mechanical & aerospace; fashion and graphic designers; and a range of others such as rocket production, investigative reporter, police officer, financial analyst, health coach, dietician, entrepreneur and more.

Lusso Cosmetics Field Trip Connects Classwork to Real-Life
On Monday, AP Biology and AP Chemistry classes traveled to Lusso Cosmetics Inc. in Lakewood. Students learned the process of how lipstick is made - from the chemical substances used to make it to its packaging. The owner and founder of the cosmetics company, Lou McClung, shared with students the chemical and biological aspects involved in the research and development, creation, quality control and cosmetic contamination testing of lipstick.

The students expressed how much they enjoyed the field trip and appreciated the real-world application of the content they are learning in their AP classes.
Enrich Kairos Experiences with Heartfelt Letters
Members of the Class of 2023 will be attending a Kairos Retreat March 10-12. Faith formation is such an important aspect of the high school journey at Saint Joseph Academy and Kairos retreats are incredibly important events. Each parent/guardian is asked to write a special letter sharing what their daughter means to them and the reasons they are so proud of her.

In our busy world, we seldom take time to tell others how much we love them. It can be even more difficult to tell a teenager what she means to you. Perhaps you do it all the time, but in the context of this retreat, your caring words will mean so much more to her.

Course Selections for Next Year Due March 7
The deadline for selecting next year's courses is approaching. If students haven’t already done so, they need to review the 2022-2023 Course Catalog and submit course requests by Monday, March 7.

Contact Student Information Systems Coordinator Mr. Taylor Lintz with questions or for assistance.
Free ACT Test Prep for Juniors
On Tuesday, March 15, Juniors will take the ACT test at Saint Joseph Academy. To help students prepare for this test, we are offering a one-day test prep seminar for free! All juniors are encouraged to sign up for this opportunity (even if enrolled in the Seeley Test Prep classes).

This one-day, strategy-based ACT test prep seminar is being brought to you by Next Level Prep in partnership with Saint Joseph Academy. It will be held in the Auditorium on Monday, March 7, 8:15 a.m.-3 p.m.

Spotlight: Ava Haddad '22
Accomplishments: Ava is the first documented player in the Academy’s history to reach 1,000 basketball career points. She is a power forward for the Varsity team. Her favorite memory of the season so far has been winning her last home game against Magnificat High School, surrounded by the contagious energy and support of the fans.

Ava feels that being on the team has made a lasting impact, “Being a part of the SJA basketball team has introduced me to my best friends. The bonds that I have created I hope to hold onto for years to come. The community of girls and coaches is so special. Being a part of the team has also made me more of a leader these past four years - speaking out and pushing my team to be their very best in order to reach our end goal.”

Ava started playing the sport in fourth grade as just something to do, but that quickly changed. She stated, “it turned out to be a sport I absolutely loved. The people I met through this sport and the feeling I had while playing basketball helped me stick with it up until now.” Growing up, Ava attended basketball games at Saint Joseph Academy and attributes the players as role models who inspired her to play for the Academy. She will continue her basketball career at Clarion University in Pennsylvania where she has committed to play.

Activities: Ava is an Academy Ambassador, as well as a member of the Mental Health Matters Club and the Middle Eastern Cultural Club. Outside the Academy, Ava “loves doing acts of service” and is active in her family’s non-profit organization, Shanerock. She is also involved with the running group, “Running With the Cats.”

Most people don’t know that Ava loves sushi!
