Dear Friends and Neighbors,
My office secured a sex trafficking indictment this week against a Corona man accused of forcing his victim to engage in sex for money, with the abuse starting in Mexico in 2021 and continuing in Queens.

During her three-year ordeal, whenever the victim failed to produce the amount of money the defendant required, he hit and choked her and threatened to kill her family.

He now faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.

Our fight against human trafficking and traffickers is a difficult one. We have to do everything that we can to save the victims being sexually exploited and physically abused.

It is why I created a Human Trafficking Bureau and why cases such as this one are so important.

Home to two international airports, Queens is unfortunately a prime geographical location for trafficking. My office is committed to combating this degrading and criminal industry. We aggressively prosecute the offenders while implementing a victim-centered approach by connecting survivors to meaningful services.

Too often, victims are made to feel alone and helpless but there are tools available to help those caught in these tragic situations.

Anyone who needs help or more information can reach our Human Trafficking Bureau at (718) 286-6548.

My top priority will always be keeping you and your loved ones safe.

In Friendship,

Melinda Katz
Queens District Attorney
