Hello, Walden Families!
I am Chris Kaftan and I am the interim principal of Walden. I’m a white male with brown beard and hair. I’m wearing something different today! I am wearing a black shirt with the Black Lives Matter logo and small print words inside the logo. This shirt was designed by a Black Deaf woman designer. I am wearing this t-shirt in support of our upcoming event – Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action, the week of January 31. Our entire community of Walden and Marie Philip Schools are involved in this week of action.
You may have seen our ECC Director Milmaglyn Morales’ video last week (https://conta.cc/3Kc3c6S) about what our community is doing to support the Black Lives Matter at School event. On Wednesday, January 19, our staff had a meeting to prepare for the activities starting on January 31.
Here are the Walden School updates for this week:
- We have two weeks left in the quarter ending January 28! That means our second quarter ends and the semester ends and we start a new quarter on Monday, January 31.
- With many students absent this month due to illnesses or other absences, some of our students are behind with their schoolwork. Please have a conversation with your child about making sure they are caught up. If you are not sure about your child’s status, please contact their following teacher.
- With all the ups and downs this month, we remain optimistic! Our staff continue to come to work with smiles on their faces and show care and dedication to our students!
