The Script at Foothill

For all students interested in taking Journalism classes at Foothill: This Spring quarter, Foothill has provided the opportunity for students to register for Introduction to Reporting and Newswriting course, as well as the Intermediate class. We need a minimum of 35 students to apply, and the more they do, the better. This is the website: https://foothillscript.com for the Foothill newspaper, which students will be able to interact with and spread content/the news. Students get the chance to advance their writing and analysis, can interact with students in a small community to sidestep COVID, and have a great resume builder, I suppose. The courses, JRNL 22A and 22B, are both 5 units but are not as strenuous as they may appear to be. If students like to write or intend to become better writers, this will be a breeze!
Hispanic Fund Silicon Valley STEM Scholarship

The Latinos in Technology Scholarship was established by the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley, a public foundation dedicated to inspiring community philanthropy and engaging people to invest in the educational achievement and leadership development of a thriving Latinx community in Silicon Valley. This program will give up to 100 Latinx students the support they need to graduate from college. Additionally, scholarship recipients will be considered for summer internships with sponsoring corporate investors.

Deadline is March 19. Please see this link for more information: Silicon Valley Community Foundation.

Research and Service Learning Symposium
We know that many Honors students look forward to participating in the Bay Area Honors Consortium Research Symposium. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, this year's symposium has been canceled. However, we want to remind you that Foothill College has its very own research and service leadership symposium and we strongly encourage Honors students to apply and participate. Applications are due March 19, 2021, so now is a great time to start envisioning projects and research proposals.
What exactly is the Research and Service Leadership Symposium?

The Research and Service Leadership Symposium provides students an opportunity to expand their learning beyond the walls of the classroom (or the confines of the screen), to investigate their world through in-depth research projects, to create and participate in worthwhile service-learning activities, including original creative arts projects, and to present their newfound knowledge, insights, and experiences to the campus community.
