NEW MANSION HOUSE EXHIBIT CELEBRATES ARTISTIC FELLOWSHIP
âSeeing It Our Way", the new art show for the month of March at the Valley Art Association's Mansion House Art Center & Gallery in Hagerstown's City Park.
| |
Artists just see things differently. They see colors, textures, shadows, shapes and even meaning others might not see. For many artists, creating in the company of other like-minded people is a plus, and that's exactly the theme of the new exhibit at the Mansion House Art Center & Gallery in Hagerstown's City Park.
"Seeing It Our Way" is an exhibition of 50 canvases by 21 artist members of the Valley Art Association (VAA) who participate in one of the VAA's two, longtime weekly in-person gatherings: The Wednesday Group and Inspiration Tuesdays. "Seeing It Our Way" runs March 4-27, 2022 at the VAA's Mansion House Art Center and Gallery in Hagerstown's City Park.
The VAA's Wednesday group, currently chaired by artist Pattie Boyst of Hagerstown, originally started in the 1980s when local artists were meeting at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in City Park, while the Mansion House on the hill had been sitting empty. VAA members proposed to the City that the building be used for a gallery; the City agreed, volunteers cleaned up the Mansion House, and it became the VAA's new home in 1981. One of the original members is still painting with that group.
The Tuesday group, currently chaired by artist Donna Mason of Hagerstown, was started in 2011 by Marjorie Tressler of Waynesboro, who initially envisioned having three venues in the Mansion House: one room for portrait studies of live models, one set up for still lifes, and one set up for artists to work from their own resources.
The Valley Art Association, whose motto is "Art is for Everyone", operates the Mansion House Art Center & Gallery at 480 Highland Avenue in Hagerstown, open to the public Fridays and Saturdays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays, 1-5 p.m. Admission is free.

The Maryland Theatre hosts
Travis Tritt
Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 7:30 PM
Nearly 30 years after Travis Tritt launched his music career, the Southern rock-influenced artist continues to sell-out shows and stay true and relevant to country music fans across the globe. Continuously performing shows and withholding a heavy appearance schedule, Tritt is proving to be unstoppable. At the same time, his conspicuous lack of a cowboy hat and musical assertiveness set him apart.
Fee: $48 - $78
