MONROE CONSERVATION COMMISSION VACANCY

The Town of Monroe Conservation Commission (MCC) is looking to recruit a new member to the team.  The commission currently consists of 6 volunteers (7 permitted) who have a concern for environmental protection, land use, trees and wetland preservation, and related advisory involvement in development projects within our community.  Some expertise or related knowledge of these issues is desirable but not essential. The primary need is for volunteers to have a keen interest in local preservation issues and occasional time to attend meetings and get involved with site visits and related projects. Team meetings are held on the third Thursday evening of each month at the Monroe Town Hall.

The MCC has been in existence since 1990. It acts in an advisory capacity, on conservation matters, to the Town of Monroe Planning Board, other local boards, and the citizens of Monroe. The Commission is also a member of the Moodna Creek Watershed Intermunicipal Council, that is active in protecting the watershed in our area and out to the Hudson River.

The Town of Monroe has also recently become registered as a NYS Climate Smart Community (CSC), and the MCC will initially be the Task Force for assisting with CSC climate related and energy conservation initiatives.

If you are interested in joining the MCC and becoming involved with local conservation issues, please submit a letter of interest to the Town Supervisor, Tony Cardone, at tcardone@monroeny.org. In your letter, please provide a brief bio of yourself, any relevant experience, and your interest to join the Commission.
