Announcement: New SUN Global Gathering dates | |
The 2024 SUN Movement Global Gathering will be taking place from 25 to 28 November 2024 in Kigali, Rwanda. Although the event was previously set for the end of June, the dates were shifted as the country will be holding national and parliamentary elections on July 15-16. | |
International Women's Day 2024
The theme for this year's International Women's Day is "Invest in women: Accelerate progress,".
With over one billion adolescent girls and women experiencing undernutrition, it is crucial to prioritize women in nutrition initiatives, as a vital strategy to effectively address gender equality gaps.

World Obesity Day 2024: WHO news release
To mark World Obesity Day, the World Health Organization issued a news release highlighting a recent study published by The Lancet. The study revealed that as of 2022, the global population grappling with obesity has surpassed 1 billion people.

Nutrition for Growth Summit's new Secretary General
The Government of France has announced Brieuc Pont as their Special Envoy and Secretary General for the next Nutrition for Growth Summit expected to be held in early 2025. A career diplomat, Mr. Pont has already met with SUN Movement constituents including the SUN Movement Coordinator, as well as civil society and business representatives.

First Lady of the Central African Republic assumes role as National Nutrition Ambassador

In January 2024, Her Excellency Tina Marguerite Touadéra, the First Lady of the Central African Republic (CAR), officially assumed the role of National Nutrition Ambassador. This historical moment took place during the Constituent General Assembly of the SUN Civil Society Alliance in CAR, where over 100 network members convened to shape the formation of the alliance. | |
Championing change: Chad's youth leading the charge against malnutrition | |

In Chad, a pivotal step forward in addressing malnutrition has been the recent establishment of the Youth Network for Nutrition. Led by Mr. Kossi Clément TAMBAYE, and in collaboration with the national SUN Media Network, this initiative underscores the critical role of youth engagement in the fight against malnutrition, supported by the SUN Movement and Action Against Hunger. | |
Partners come together in a dialogue on resilience to climate change, biodiversity and its relationship with better nutrition in Central America | |

Partners from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Executive Secretariat of the Central American Agricultural Council (SE-CAC), the SUN Movement, the European Union and the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation joined the Workshop “Solutions based on Nature, biodiversity and nutrition in the Agriculture sector, the Forestry sector and Land Use Change of Central America and the Dominican Republic with the objective of strengthening understanding of the triple nexus between climate change, biodiversity and nutrition; as well as socialize among countries the actions carried out to rescue biodiversity and ancestral knowledge. | |
WFP Bangladesh – Nutrition Assessments

UN inter-agency collaboration and multi-stakeholder engagement takes many forms. In this case, UNHCR led a nutrition survey in collaboration with the Government of Bangladesh, UNICEF, WFP, the Global Nutrition Cluster and various civil society organizations to monitor the situation in refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar. The findings provide powerful advocacy inputs and can help shape the programming response to safeguard maternal, infant and young child health and nutrition status among this vulnerable population. | |
FAO launches new portal for statistics on Food and Diet | Diets lie at the heart of the nutrition–environment nexus. In early February, FAO released a new food and diets data portal, capturing statistics on the availability, consumption and dietary intake of foods, energy and 17 nutrients. This is an important step forward for closing data gaps to better inform food systems policies for healthy people and a healthy planet. | |

UNICEF and WHO TEAMing up on nutrition information systems
UNICEF and WHO have joined forces through the Technical Expert Advisory group on nutrition Monitoring (TEAM). As part of this collaboration, five technical notes on nutrition information systems (NIS) have been developed and others are in the pipeline. This series is supported by training modules with guidance for designing and implementing NIS.
