Food for Thought...

Another wonderful reflection from our recent vestry meeting. Thank you, Nancy Bisset. . .

When I look at the state of the world today I have serious doubts if it is prepared to receive the message of love, joy and hope that the birth of the Christ child brings. Here at home we thave not seen such division and extremism since the civil war, runaway inflation is forcing families to decide whether to pay the rent or properly nourish their children and racism and gender discrimination are rampant. On the international stage a brutal and inhumane dictator is waging a war which is inflicting intolerable torture and suffering upon the Ukrainian people and even threatens the possibility of using nuclear weapons. Not too much to be Merry about. But then I remember the words of one of my favorite Christmas carols “O Holy Night”, “the world in sin and errror pining” describing the state of the world before “our dear savior’s birth” a description that aptly fits the situation we find ourselves in today. This year we just might need to heed and spread the message of Christmas more than ever.
