WOLFHOUND WEDNESDAY
December 1, 2021
Our kindergartners got to teach older students about the farms they made, and where their food comes from!
The O'Reilly Minute
Dear Parents,

This past Sunday we began a new liturgical year with the beginning of Advent. These four weeks are a special time of prayer and preparation. Advent is a time to prepare our hearts and souls to celebrate the birthday of the Messiah.  One way to spend time in prayer and preparation as a family is to light a family Advent wreath each evening before dinner.  As a school community, we start each school day by praying and lighting a candle on the school Advent wreath.  I would also like to share with you this Advent Challenge that was shared with me. This challenge would be a great way for families to prepare for the celebration of Christmas!

Our Home and School has been busy planning several fun activities for our students and staff during the month of December.  Our volunteer parents will help us to celebrate this coming Monday the Feast of St. Nicholas.  This December 6th feast day provides a teachable moment to share the story of St. Nicholas, who is known for generosity and secretly gifting those in need. We will be on the lookout to see if St. Nicholas will stop by our school on his horse and with the assistance of our Home and School deliver candy canes for all of our students!

In the spirit of generosity, our Home and School Outreach Committee is working with our 8th grade students to sponsor a 3 week toy drive to provide Christmas toys to several different organizations helping families in need.  Please see the details in the story below and help us reach our ambitious goal!  This week’s collection is due by this Friday, and we are collecting new or gently used toys for Delaware’s Common Ground Free Store, which will be open for their shoppers this weekend. As of Tuesday afternoon, we have reached one-third of our goal.

Next week our Home and School volunteers are planning a “Twas the Night Before Christmas” event.  Our students and staff will all be invited to wear school appropriate pajamas to school on Friday, December 10th!!!  There will also be a Christmas movie and popcorn treat!

This week our 2nd graders will be celebrating a very special event in the development of their faith life.  On December 1st  our 2nd grade students, with the support of their parents, will be making their First Reconciliation. Please keep our children in your prayers.

Next week on Monday, December 6th our 5 - 8 grade choir students will be presenting for school families a Christmas Choir Concert at 7:00 pm in the church. I am looking forward to a beautiful evening of prayer and music.

Advent Blessings,
Kathy O’Reilly

****This is not to replace the Gifts of Gratitude donation! We want to take care of our teachers as much as they take care of our kiddos!****

There will be representatives from Saint Brigid of Kildare School’s many programs available to answer questions.

What Are You Feeling Grateful for This Christmas Season?
Home & School is working on a school Gratitude Wall during the month of December. This is a wonderful opportunity to share our feelings of gratitude and our many blessings with our teachers and the school staff that work so hard and care so much.

Grab a notecard or a Post-It note and share with the staff why you feel blessed to be part of our school community. Or share why you are grateful to a particular staff member or a team of people at our school. We will display these notes for all to see in the cafeteria. It is a wonderful way to start out the season of Advent - by sharing feelings of blessings and gratitude. Please take a moment to let our teachers and staff know how much they mean to us and how truly special they are.

Simply jot down what you would like to share on the Post-It note or a notecard and send it in to the school. You or your child can drop them off with Sandy Peecook in the school office during the month of December. It can be as simple as a thank you. This project is for parents, grandparents, students, or anyone that would like to express their gratitude for our amazing school and school staff.

Advent Toy Collections
Are you ready to give?
Are you ready to help?
Are you ready to share?
Our toy drives have begun!

The eighth grade students of the Saint Brigid of Kildare Class of 2022 are getting ready for an absolute avalanche of new and gently used toys to arrive here at school throughout the first three weeks of Advent! Packing boxes are stacked and labeled by age group, and our battery tester is ready to use. Now we just need the help of all of our amazing Wolfhound families!

Between November 29 - December 3, we are collecting new and gently used toys for the Delaware Common Ground Free Store. Their need is 500 items, and we are determined to meet our goal of 333 toys. Please see the link below to see the kinds of items that are needed/preferred.

Between December 6 - December 10, we are collecting new and gently used toys for Basement Blessings. They are expecting 200 families to come through their Christmas store, and we are again determined to meet our goal of 333 toys. The attached link also lists the items needed/preferred by Basement Blessings.

Our big finale will take place during December 13 - December 16, ending on Thursday of this last week. Our Lady of Guadalupe Center is a Catholic outreach organization that, quite honestly, is in desperate need of our help. They are requesting 60 new toys, and their request has been pared down to Lego or similar Megablox, teddy bears, and baby dolls, all suitable for ages 0-10. They had so hoped to be able to do more for their families, but the combination of COVID and volunteer shortages has greatly reduced what they will be able to provide. Please see the attached links for specific information on the needs of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Center.

Thank you all in advance for all that you are able to do. Let’s share our blessings!

PLEASE NOTE: Gently used toys and games must be clean, complete, and in a safe condition with no missing or broken parts. We cannot accept used board games, used puzzles, or used toys for infants and toddlers. Gently used toys should look brand new, as children will be opening these gifts as their brand new Christmas presents.
We are seeking help to sort through the new and used toy donations. Please use the link below to sign-up if you are able to volunteer. Masks will be required.

Gifts of Gratitude: Teacher & Staff Appreciation Gift
Make your life easier by checking one thing off your Christmas gift list! Donate to Gifts of Gratitude! Home & School has provided you with a convenient way to show your appreciation to the teachers and staff at St. Brigid during Christmas and at the end of the year.

What is it?
Gifts of gratitude was established by the Home and School Association as a united effort to provide a generous monetary gift to every school and parish teacher and staff member at Christmas and the end of the year to thank them for all they do for our children.

Why participate?
This is a convenient way for families to make sure that each teacher, aide, and staff member who touches your child's life is recognized for all they do at St. Brigid.
Instead of several small gifts from each student, each teacher and staff member will receive a monetary gift that they choose how to use--whether they want to splurge on themselves or help with their own family's expenses.

Will my family be recognized for participating?
Yes -- the teachers and staff will receive a list of families who participate in this
program. You may also let the teachers and staff know that you participated in the program by marking "G.O.G" inside your Christmas card to them.

How much do I give?
The suggested annual gift amount is $25 per child once a year, however any given amount is graciously accepted and appreciated!

Can't remember if you already contributed?
No worries -- just contact Sherri Johnson at [email protected] and she will let you know!

You can find the link for Gifts of Gratitude at the button below. Choose your donation amount and that's it. It's that easy! It's such a simple way to show appreciation to your child/children's teachers and the staff at St Brigid of Kildare.

Eucharistic Adoration This Friday
This Friday is first Friday Eucharistic Adoration beginning after the 9am daily Mass and ending with Benediction at 4pm. Please feel free to sign up using the link below or stop in as your schedule allows. Children are always welcome. Please be sure to sign in using the paper sign in sheet located in the gathering space in the church (for both scheduled adorers and unscheduled).

During this Advent season, Jesus longs for us to spend time with him in quiet prayer. Bishop Barron encourages us, "As you keep vigil before the Blessed Sacrament, bring to Christ some problem or dilemma that you have been fretting over, and then say: "Lord, I’m waiting for you to solve this, to show me the way out, the way forward. I’ve been running, planning, worrying, but now I’m going to let you work." Then, throughout Advent, watch attentively for signs.

Also, when you pray before the Eucharist, allow your desire for the things of God to intensify; allow your heart and soul to expand. Pray, "Lord, make me ready to receive the gifts you want to give," or even, "Lord Jesus, surprise me."
Blood Drive December 13
With the holiday season approaching, the need for blood donation is critical! The Covid-19 pandemic has reduced donations. There is no manufactured equivalent to human blood; it must be donated to the Red Cross and then allocated to hospitals based on levels of need. If you can spare an hour of your time on Monday, December 13, please consider donating in Hendricks Hall from 1:30 - 7:00 pm. The link to schedule an appointment is: RedCrossBlood.org using sponsor code: saintbrigid. You can also call 1-800-RED CROSS to register.

Thank you in advance for considering a donation. It is a perfect Christmas gift!
