School Threats and Violence!

Prosecutor Lucido's Efforts to Reduce Recidivism Recognized by Non-Profit Think Tank

The Nolan Center for Justice was established by the American Conservative Union Foundation (“ACUF”), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Making Macomb Communities Safer

One of Prosecutor Lucido's top goals is to reduce recidivism to make Macomb County safer. Recidivism refers to repeat offenders. Prosecutor Lucido's efforts contributed to a cut in Macomb County's recidivism rate from 25.5% to 17.8%, a 7.7% point and 30% reduction in recidivism. Today, Macomb County's recidivism rate is lower than Wayne County, Oakland County, and the State of Michigan rate.

Please take a moment and read the full report published by the Nolan Center for Justice Organization that highlights and summarizes the positive results since 2020. https://conservativejusticereform.org/pete-lucido/

Article Conclusion:

Instead of simply pushing for harsher sentences and increasing incarceration rates, the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office is focusing on addressing the underlying drivers of crime and continuing to decrease the rate of recidivism. This strategy leaves the door open to rehabilitation and redemption, while increasing public safety by working to prevent crime before it occurs. The success in Lucido’s county and the State of Michigan in reducing recidivism is encouraging, but Macomb County has gone a step further and stands out from the crowd. It is equally impressive that the county obtained these results during the COVID 19 pandemic and civil unrest following George Floyd’s death, suggesting that its strategies and reforms are more durable than Michigan’s state-wide strategy.

By focusing on public safety, Prosecutor Lucido has made Macomb County a safer place to live. Policy underscored by the principles of accountability and redemption are the keys to his leadership, and a cornerstone of the results seen in his county over the last three years.

Visit Peanut the Prosecutor on Instagram!

The Macomb County Prosecutor's support dog Peanut continues to integrate into his work life.  Peanut the Prosecutor, comes from the Canine Advocacy Program in connection with CARE House to help survivors of trauma participate in the Criminal Justice System.

Peanut has settled in well and found some new friends and co-workers. When not meeting children victims or witnesses he can be found on the 5th floor in the Child Protection Unit or on the 4th floor near the Discovery Unit.

APA Vicki Policicchio took Peanut for a few days when Peanut's Dad, APA Mark Laws, went on a family vacation. Peanut loved meeting her cats and her home. Discovery Support Staffer Olya Rybak has become Peanut's go to dog walker and they can be seen around town at lunch visiting local businesses and delivering good cheer to the people of Mt. Clemens.  Look for his new Instagram account where you can see Peanut in the community!

Peanut is scheduling another "test" for next month. He has to lie in the courtroom next to the witness stand for 60 minutes without moving while there are various distractions going on around him. We have employed some new training strategies and are very hopeful he will ace it this time around.
