Delafield soon established himself in New York as a merchant and was exceptionally successful. He became one of the wealthiest men in the country. He married into the Hallett Family and purchased the Blackwell farm overlooking the East River paying his father-in-law $3,300 (about $110,000 in today’s currency). Its modern bounds would include the Costco Parking Lot.
