NOTES
RECESS RELAY AGAINST CANCER
Remember to clear your calendars for Friday, May 26th, from 12:00 - 2:30. We have 11 days left until our relay recess field event, which will be held on the Riverside soccer field. We hope you’re planning to join us! Lunch starts at 12:00 and the walk will start directly after, so have your walking shoes ready and rest up for lap after lap of music, crazy themes, dancing, and just plain family fun.

We need you to help make this year’s Recess Relay a success! Please sign up on the Volunteer Sign Up form if you can help set up, clean up, or lead activities during the event.

This week your child will be bringing home a fundraising envelope from The American Cancer Society (ACS) and we’re asking for your support. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a difference, and all donations to ACS are tax deductible. ACS is a 501 (c)3 tax-exempt organization. Their federal tax ID number is 13-1788491. Their mission continues to be, “save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight to a world without cancer.” Please make a tax-deductible donation, and participate in our relay to help ACS continue to save lives. Stay tuned for a volunteer sign-up sheet and more details about how you can help with the relay on May 26th. Contact Caroline Thompson with any questions.
DANCE CLASS FUNDRAISER FOR MOMS
Madeleine Balcolm and Anna Crytzer have an upcoming dance scheduled at Andrea Thibaudeau's (former Riverside parent) yoga studio on May 20th. They'd like to offer it up as an idea for Riverside moms to have a night out (a mini mom prom!!), and donate all proceeds from their tickets towards Riverside fundraising. If you are interested, please email Madeleine or Anna for more information.
ANNUAL STATE STANDARDIZED TESTING
Middle schoolers successfully completed their testing last week, and 3-5th grade testing begins this week. Please see the class lesson plans (below) for more details.
TICK SEASON
Don't forget that it's tick season in our part of the world, and our students are outside often: exploring the woods and tall grass, or sitting in short grass. We encourage students to check for ticks when they come inside, and hope that you will do full checks at home when changing clothes for bedtime.
RAFFLE UPDATE
Thanks to all who participated or volunteered at the raffle this past Saturday. In addition to the cash winners, there were over seventy wonderful prizes handed out along the way. This event is a major fundraiser for the school, and we are beyond grateful to those who prepared food, solicited gifts, helped set up, made music (Sawyer, Anders, and Cameron), and cleaned up after.

About Money: Students will need to have $30 for one dinner meal, $15 for a drink and/or snack at Fenway, and please no more than $15 in additional spending money, so between $45-60. Learning to budget and manage this amount of money is a truly teachable moment for our middle school students, and we embrace it as such. Please help coach them at home about making wise choices, the importance of proper tipping at a restaurant, and the reality of different families have different capacities for spending. If the $45 minimum is a real challenge for your family, please reach out to any faculty member with whom you're comfortable to ask for help, and the school will ensure that all students have what they need.

Schedule: Students should be at Riverside by 8:00 am on Wednesday morning. We aim to return by 4:00pm on Friday.
  • Wednesday AM: travel south

  • Friday: visiting the Minute Man National Park and travel north

Packing List: As ever, students should be prepared for a variety of terrain and temperatures. Please encourage your child to pack lightly and to label personal items with his/her name (especially those outer layers and carried items that tend to be dropped like bags, bottles, warm layers, rain coats), both efforts will make life on the trip easier for all of us. In addition to what they wear on Wednesday, the following should be packed:
  • Two shirts
  • Shorts
  • Long pants
  • Two pairs of socks, underwear,
  • Sweatshirt or fleece and raincoat
