ACCESS Resource Providers Join NAIRR Pilot

Several ACCESS Resource Providers have joined the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) Pilot, a collaboration led by the National Science Foundation to strengthen responsible AI development and research. Four existing and one anticipated resource in the ACCESS portfolio have been selected for NAIRR, along with two DOE resources. The AI supercomputers chosen to participate in the pilot will support novel and transformative AI research and education at the national scale. PSC’s Neocortex AI system, NCSA’s Delta and DeltaAI (once it’s deployed and accepted by NSF) and TACC's Frontera and Lonestar6 supercomputers will all participate in the NAIRR pilot. The NAIRR pilot will use allocations software and procedures developed by PSC and its partners (NCAR and NCSA) as part of the ACCESS project. Further, SDSC’s Sustainable Scientific Software Division (S3D) developed the NAIRR pilot portal using the Hubzero® framework. Congratulations to all who've worked to bring this pilot to launch! Read the full story here.

A Year of Hard Work Results in Redesigned ACCESS Allocations Website

Allocations has a new website! Check it out if you haven’t already. Early feedback has been incredible – people love it!

Based on feedback from the community the Allocations team revised interfaces to highlight important information for various audiences. Check out some of the new features below:

  • Take a video tour on our How-To page and learn how to easily manage your project.
  • See what other researchers are working on at the Current ACCESS Projects page. This page provides a list of all projects, searchable by scientific field, organization and project type.
  • If you have an existing project, you now have a projects headquarters called My Projects. It’s the go-to location for all project management tasks, including adding or tweaking resources, managing people, tracking project history and more.
  • It’s never been easier to get started with the Get Your First Project page. Here you will find the steps to get set up and be able to see what you’ll need to get started using ACCESS resources.

Start using the new site now and please feel free to provide your feedback.

ACCESS Operations News

Student Training and Engagement Program (STEP) Now Accepting Applications

ACCESS Operations is accepting applications to its STEP program through Sunday, March 3. STEP is a three-phase program intended for undergraduates or early-career graduate students interested in pursuing careers in cyberinfrastructure. Hear first-hand about the 2023-24 STEP experience from past STEP cohort members here. Students interested in applying can learn more and apply here.

Science Gateways Integration Roadmap Now Available

The ACCESS program is delighted to announce documentation and consultant support for integrating ACCESS allocated science gateways into the ACCESS cyberinfrastructure environment. The Science Gateway Integration Roadmap documentation is available through the Operations portal.  A science gateways integration concierge/consultant is available to assist with the integration process, and the integration roadmap documentation. Should you have any questions or require assistance, please contact the team via the ticketing system.

New Resource Discovery System Launched

The ACCESS program and resource providers have introduced the ability to discover software available across the ACCESS environment. Using this new capability, new and existing allocated researchers can more easily discover which resources offer the software they need. Existing allocated researchers can discover available versions of software and instructions on how to access specific versions of software. The new software discovery interface is available here. Developers interested in accessing software information can access it through restful APIs. Developers interested in embedding software discovery into their websites can embed the WebApp. To request that a resource provider publish their software, or that they install new software, open a researcher support ticket. To request assistance with the Operations API, the WebApp, or with publishing your software, open an operations support ticket.

New Resource Provider Forum Chairs Elected

The ACCESS program provides a number of cyberinfrastructure resources for researchers, each managed and maintained by the diligent efforts of the Resource Providers (RPs). The RP Forum recently held its second annual Chair election, and this year, two exceptional candidates were elected to head this group. Jeremy Fischer of Indiana University will serve as RP Forum Chair and Nicole Wolter of the San Diego Supercomputing Center will serve as Co-chair. Read the full story here.

Affinity Groups Are Here For You

Affinity Groups enable people to connect around shared interests and anyone can create one!

Affinity Groups can:

  • Provide an easy way to launch a new community
  • Give visibility and enable connections for an existing community
  • Offer a space for discussion of a current topic of interest between communities

The support team has unveiled a new feature that provides Affinity Groups with an optional email list for members to communicate directly with each other, enabling easy communication around shared interests. Affinity Groups can provide a community nexus, enabling members to publish and collect important documentation, training, events and announcements. In addition to the member's email list, coordinators can broadcast emails to members of the group. ACCESS Support invites you to explore our Affinity Groups and let us know if there is a new group that would be helpful for your community.

Join the CSSN For the Latest Information

The Computational Science Support Network (CSSN) is an inclusive community of practice (e.g., anyone can join) to advance campus research computing by sharing knowledge and building relationships.
