11th Annual Walk-A-Mile

Scheduled for April 27th

Lassen Family Service’s 11th annual Walk-A-Mile event, a mile-long color walk through mid-town Susanville to support survivors of sexual assault and child abuse, will be held Saturday, April 27th in Memorial Park.

LFS hosts the event annually at the end of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week to make the community aware of the prevalence of these crimes and to provide information on the support services offered in Lassen County.

Activities will be held in the park from 8:00a.m., until 2:00p.m.

Humane Society Holding 16th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Dinner Fundraiser

Here is your chance to enjoy a great Saint Patrick’s dinner and support the Lassen Humane Society, where all proceeds directly benefit the animals of Lassen County.

The Humane Society is inviting everyone to a complete corned beef and cabbage dinner with all the fixings on Friday, March 15th, at the Susanville Senior Center, 1700 Sunkist Drive.

Dinner will be served from 5:00 to 7:00 at the cost of $18 for adults and $10 for children ten and under. Take-Out dinners are available.

There will also be a donation drawing.

Susanville Planning Commission Meeting

The Susanville Planning Commission will hold a regular meeting, February 27th, in City Council Chambers at 66 North Lassen Street.

The meeting will begin at 5:30p.m. Click here to download a printable agenda.

Reports and documents relating to each agenda item are on file in the Office of the City Clerk and are available for public inspection during normal business hours and at the meeting.

Westwood Chimney Fund Crab

Feed Fundraiser this Saturday

Westwood’s Chimney Fund will hold a Crab Feed this Saturday, February 24th, with all proceeds going to Westwood kids, sports and scholarships.

The Crab Feed will take place in the Westwood Community Center, with doors opening at 4:00 and dinner at 5:00.

Tickets are $70 for the all-you-can-eat crab dinner or $25 for a chicken dinner.

Cocktails will begin at 4:00p.m.

Along with dinner there will also be door prizes, raffle prizes, and 50/50 raffle.

New Schools for Susanville

February 22, 1949

Detailed plans for the next two buildings in the elementary school construction program were inspected and approved at a meeting of the Susanville elementary school board Wednesday night.

The complete plans were presented by Architect Robert E. Kaestner of Visalia.

Clyde Merton, assistant superintendent of elementary schools in charge of the building program, said it is hoped that advertising for bids will begin in about two weeks. The plans have been submitted to the state division of architecture for approval.

It is hoped that work will begin on the two buildings by April 1, Merton said.

Both new buildings as the new Lincoln unit will have radiant heating through the floor. They will be one story with sloping shed type roofs with large window spaces of modern design.

The Superintendent of School’s office will probably be in the building on the Washington site.
