May is Asian American, Native Hawaiian, & Pacific Islander Heritage Month!
May is Asian American, Native Hawaiian, & Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The month of May was chosen in commemoration of the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869, as the majority of workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants.

Fall Sports Registration is Open!
Hyde Park School Athletics is focused on developing well-rounded student-athletes. HPS Athletics are committed to teaching the foundational elements of the sports included in each program while providing a safe and fun environment.
The Soccer program is open to Kindergarteners through 6th graders. Kindergarteners are encouraged to play in our Lollipop Division which includes one practice per week and no official games. All other soccer divisions should expect 2 practices per week and 1 or 2 games per weekend.
Volleyball is typically open to 3rd – 6th graders. Players can expect 2 practices per week and 1 or 2 games on the weekend.
Running Club is offered as an evening activity, one night per week for our Kindergartener – 2nd graders. This age group focuses on general running activity, including all-around exercise and games. Our 3rd – 6th graders are grouped separately and typically practice one night per week as well. The focus here is running and building up to longer distances. Practice locations may vary.
Anyone in need of an athletic scholarship, please contact Jessica Leimbach at hps.athletics@outlook.com

Now Seeking: Hosts for Fall Parent Grade Level Socials
HPS Parent Grade Level Socials are themed adults-only parties that take place each Fall, usually at someone's house, and that act as the HPS PTO's first fundraisers of the year. Because the socials typically start in the last two weekends of August, we figured now is a good time to start recruiting hosts!
If you are interested in hosting a Parent Grade Level Social, please contact Caroline Gregoire at 513.260.9359. Caroline will share a signup with interested parents so that you can claim your party date.

School Breakfast & Lunch Menus for May
Due to the steady progress of our school expansion, the cafeteria will be closed beginning on May 1 so that the construction team can access the area. As a result, students will eat breakfast in their classrooms and lunch outside at picnic tables (weather permitting) or otherwise, in their classrooms. Seeking Kindergarten Lunch & Recess Volunteers
Lunch time involves a learning curve, and our youngest students are in need of some assistance during lunchtime! Tasks like opening cheese sticks yogurt lids, and even putting straws in drink boxes can be challenging to little hands. If you could spare an hour of your time, please join our lunch and recess period to help make the most of this important hour of their day! Click here to sign up. This signup link will be included in this Newsletter each week for you to access.
*IMPORTANT NEW INFORMATION*: To allow for more eating time, Kindergarteners now will be having recess BEFORE lunch. This means if you are the Lunch/Recess Duty Volunteer, you should check-in at the Main Office, then report to the Playground instead of the Cafeteria. Then, following recess, you will help escort the Kindergarteners to the Cafeteria where you will assist them as they eat lunch. Please act as the Caboose for the line, ensuring that the very last students and any stragglers make it safely into the Cafeteria.
*Please note (and, yes, it goes without saying, but) by signing up for this opportunity, you will be signing up to assist ALL Kindergarteners with their lunch and to help monitor ALL students on the playground during recess, not just your child.*
