ALAN GRATZ AUTHOR VISIT!

The event we have all been waiting for is here!  #1 New York Times bestselling author and Raider favorite, ALAN GRATZ, will visit MIS/HPMS Tuesday, March 5!  He will speak to all grade levels throughout the day and at a community event at 5:30 p.m. in the Raider Auditorium. HP families and community members are invited to attend! Thank you to HP Arts and HP LITFEST for generously supporting this event.

Thanks for an IncREDible

Book Fair!

Thank you to all of our Raider families who supported the library's book fair!  It was a RED hot success! Our Raiders were able to get many new books and reading ideas, and the profits will enable the library to buy new materials for months to come. We appreciated the many families who set up eWallets for their students. These digital accounts made shopping super easy.

We are so thankful to Joanna Russell Bliss, Jessica Friedrich, and Lindsay Wagner, our amazing volunteers who helped us cashier throughout the fair.

Thanks to the many Raider ELA  teachers who brought their classes to shop the fair and to the flutes of the Raider Band who provided lovely browsing music for the fair on Thursday afternoon.

Big thanks go to our hard-working student crew who helped us promote, run, and tear down the fair:

Sophia Colenso

Nathan Evans

Marco Gutierrez

Harper Lawrence

Kim-Anh Le

Thuy-Vi Le

Kara Moran

Sam Smith

Lila Uster

Andrew Wallace

Jing Wang

Finally, HUGE thanks goes to our Book Fair Chair Susan Hastedt and Chairs-Elect Amy Moore and Heidi McKinley Florez. These phenomenal volunteers helped us plan, promote, and run the fair. They cashiered for HOURS each day and truly empowRED us to have a successful fair!

We greatly appreciate all the support of the fair and the library as we try to keep our Raiders in their reading era!

-Jill Bellomy, Raider Librarian

Congratulations MIS Respectful Raiders

Nothing But Nets

McCulloch students and staff were "United to Beat Malaria" this week! Led by the MIS Student Leadership Club, we raised money through making baskets during recess that will be used to purchase mosquito nets in developing countries to fight the spread of malaria. We raised almost $2,500. Thank you Raiders!

Mobile Dairy Classroom

6th Grade Science classes were visited by the Southwest Dairy Farmers association Mobile Dairy Classroom this week. We met Honey, a Jersey dairy cow, and learned about the characteristics and anatomy of dairy cows, the importance of dairy food for good health, and modern environmental and food safety practices.

5th Grade Destination Imagination

Congratulations to the 5th Grade Destination Imagination team from McCulloch who won the Renaissance Award and 1st Place in Fine Arts in Motion Challenge at the DI Tournament and will be advancing to the DI State Competition in April. Team members are Lorelei Parma, Brady Thibodeau, Callum Sinclair, Violet Rockow, Anna Burdett, Hunter McCombs, and James Yen. Go Raiders! Take State!

Letter from the Principal

Hello Parents and Families,

Thank you for supporting us through another successful week at HPMS! We really appreciate everything you do. We have a busy week ahead. Please see the upcoming information below:

  • Monday, we will give 7th and 8th grade students the HPISD Student School Climate Survey during Raider Hour. It should only take them about 10-15 minutes. We value our students' feedback and will use this information to inform our school improvement efforts.
  • Tuesday, our author visitor, Alan Gratz will be here at school. His books are extremely popular with our students, and we are very excited to host him.
  • Wednesday, all 7th graders will take a Reading Spring Benchmark. The information from this test will help inform our instruction over the next three months.
  • Thursday, all 7th graders will take a Math Spring Benchmark, and all 8th graders will take the PSAT.
  • And on Friday, we begin Spring Break! Enjoy your break!

Attendance this week: Great job hitting our goal this week!!!

  5. Take your time and check your work.
  6. Ask for help if you need help.

Our mission at HPMS is to ensure high levels of learning and personal growth for all Raiders in and beyond the classroom. Thank you for helping us achieve our mission!
