As we move forward into the spring semester, welcoming even more people on campus, I wanted to share the regularly updated page at Lehman.edu with information about policies and other information that will be helpful as we all get used to gathering again. Along more social lines, the Division of Student Affairs is well into its Weeks of Welcome, which include a full roster of events through March 13th to welcome students back to campus.
Plans are moving forward to transition the School of Economics into the Lehman School of Business and Provost Peter Nwosu established the 20-member School of Business Implementation Committee (SBIC), co-chaired by Professor Dene Hurley, Chair of the Department of Economics and Business; Associate Professor Amod Choudhary, Interim Associate Dean, School of Natural and Social Sciences, and Victor Brown, Associate Provost for Academic Programs and Educational Effectiveness. We will be working together to give the committee its charge for its first phase of work in preparation for the launch of the school by July 1. The School of Business was also featured this month on NY1.
In addition, planning has commenced for the fall 2022 semester. At present, CUNY planning has the locus of decision-making reverting back to each campus. We are currently planning largely based on the fall 2018 and 2019 terms and making adjustments. We anticipate rolling out the plans over the next couple of weeks.
The Campus Climate Committee will be sharing a campus-wide survey to students, faculty, and staff to help gauge its strengths and weaknesses around diversity and inclusion on March 1. You can take the survey here, on March 1. The survey link will also be sent to you via email, shared on Blackboard and lehman.edu, and posted around campus. Please make it a priority to participate so we can identify what we’re doing right and where we may need to improve. Participation is confidential and voluntary. It will take an estimated 20 to 30 minutes to finish; those who complete it can enter a drawing to win a gift card of up to $100.
Celebrating Excellence
The Lehman Center for the Performing Arts was featured by the Associated Press as one of the largest cultural institutions in the Bronx for reopening its doors to commemorate its 41st season, with the help of the $1 million federal Shuttered Venue Operators Grant, created to help important organizations like the PAC after COVID.
In alignment with our strategic plan, Lehman 2025, and our commitment to comprehensive internationalization, the Provost’s office announced the first cohort of Global Engagement Faculty Fellows (GEFF): Professors Nicholas Boston, Bertrade Ngo-Ngijol Banoum and Stephanie Rupp in the Departments of Journalism and Media Studies, Africana Studies and Anthropology respectively.
Congratulations to Lehman student Allen Mena for being one of dozens of CUNY students selected to provide input to Mayor Eric Adams’ transition team.
