"FIRST LADIES OF THE SEA" VIRTUAL DISCUSSION HAPPENING NEXT TUESDAY, MARCH 15 AT 6PM ET

Curatorial Team Examines the Role of Women in the Art, Design, and Engineering of America's Flagship
Our new digital exhibition, "Transatlantic Trailblazers: The Women Behind the Art & Engineering of the SS United States," is now live on our website and it's already getting rave reviews.

Now, as we celebrate Women's History Month, the Conservancy is excited to offer our "First Ladies of the Sea: The SS United States’ Transatlantic Trailblazers" virtual panel discussion that will delve into how this digital exhibition was developed, and offer further insight and commentary around the role of women in the ship's widely-acclaimed art, design, and engineering.

Developed by our curatorial team, the "Transatlantic Trailblazers" exhibition explores the prominent roles of Mira Jedwabnik Van Doren, Hildreth Meière, Elaine Kaplan, and others in the design, art and engineering of the SS United States, the largest ocean liner ever built in America. From groundbreaking propeller design to some of the most luxurious - and safest - seagoing interiors, many trailblazing women helped make the SS United States the pride of her nation.

Since its launch, America’s Flagship has been a national symbol of resiliency and perseverance. That spirit is needed now more than ever as the global community stands in opposition to Russia’s unprovoked war on Ukraine...”
