Band
TIME CHANGE for Pizza and Pep Night! Wednesday, April 6 from 5 - 7 pm
For the first time in two years, Mr. Gillespie is inviting incoming freshman band students to play pep band songs with Wind Ensemble students. They will start in the gym, learn songs, have pizza, and then hopefully head out to the field to play at the lacrosse game tailgate before the game begins at 8 pm. Parents are invited at 7:15 pm to see the action. Come see first hand how wonderful being a part of the Ballard band community is! See the flyer for details .

The Brass Quartet has been selected as the alternate for the WIAA/WMEA State Solo and Ensemble Contest held in Ellensburg. The ensemble members, all seniors, headed to Ellensburg at the end of the month are Luke O'Meara, Nate Hall, Mattie Hoec, and Kai Iwayama.

University Kiwanis Pitzer/Weeks Vocal Scholarship
This is the 44th year that the University Kiwanis Club will offer a voice scholarship in honor of Carl Pitzer and Norman Weeks. Originally they gave the scholarship to only graduating seniors, but they now accept applications from all students currently in high school, including those graduating in June of 2022. The scholarship rules provide that a scholarship of $2,500 may be offered each year to the most deserving vocal student, to use for voice lessons. This year they will also offer $1,000 prizes to the 2nd and 3rd runners-up.
Each applicant must participate in a concert on the afternoon of May 28, 2022. (Please note that day is part of Memorial Day weekend.) Each singer will sing two songs (one classical and one standard or from the musical theatre repertoire) for the audition committee and audience. (An accompanist will be provided.) Applicants must also submit a complete set of papers detailing their background.
All applications must be postmarked by May 10, 2022. See Ms. Rowley for an application if you're interested or click here.

Chamber Orchestra WMEA Program to Be Performed at BHS April 7
Due to weather conditions, Chamber Orchestra was not able to perform at the Washington Music Educator Association Conference in Yakima. It is a big honor to be selected to perform there, so Ms. Fortune has arranged for a performance here in Seattle to honor this group that has worked so hard.
Performance will be Thursday April 7 at 6:30 pm in the BHS Performing Arts Center.

Coffee Fundraiser
Twice a year we partner with local coffee roaster Caffè Appassionato, the Pacific Northwest’s premier roasting company, to offer a special fundraising opportunity to our students. This spring, for EACH bag of coffee your student sells to family, friends, and neighbors, they will earn a percentage of sales in their student account. Student account funds add up – especially with this fundraiser – and your student can use their student account funds to pay yearly program or class fees and for upcoming camps and trips (they are coming back). What could be easier than selling delicious coffee to friends and family in and around Seattle? (Only chocolate…and we have that too.) More specific details to come, but talk to your student about this fundraiser.
The fundraiser will start April 18, the week after spring break, and ends April 29.
